A full-dress tourer tends to be maintained by a dealer, on a plan, and the plan arrives once a year as an invoice with two columns. One is labour, which does not change much. The other is parts, and the parts column is the one that quietly repeats: the same short list of consumables bought again at every service, for as long as the motorcycle is kept. The Sprint Filter PM142S changes one line of it. The air element becomes something to be taken out, cleaned and put back — still an item of work, no longer an item of stock.

Work stays, stock goes

Nothing here shortens the job. The airbox still has to be reached, the element still has to be examined, and on a motorcycle wearing this much bodywork that access is the real cost of the visit. What disappears is the second half of the transaction: the panel that had to be ordered, held and fitted, replaced every time whether or not it had earned it. The inspection remains, and it becomes more useful rather than less, because now there is something to be done about whatever it finds without waiting for a delivery.

An honest account of the benefit

Two things are true at once. A drop-in element will not make a standard RT noticeably faster, since the intake, the injection and the exhaust were developed as one system and a filter panel sits inside it rather than around it. And a filter that can be restored keeps its resistance close to where it began, instead of climbing steadily between services in a way that no instrument on this motorcycle will ever mention. The second is a small, real, permanent benefit. The first is a claim the product does not need.

Care and cleaning

Compressed air is the whole procedure. Applied to the clean face and directed outward, it moves the load back out of the weave the way it went in. Should a season leave a film that air will not shift, warm water and a mild detergent will, and the element is rinsed until the water comes away clear. Drying takes place in open air only, well clear of heat and flame, and it is fitted dry and untreated. The maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
