DescriptionThe whole story▼
Aprilia's RS 457 will not turn a wheel with the side stand switch reporting anything other than "up". That is exactly what a rider wants on the road and exactly what gets in the way once the stand comes off for a track day. The JP ES 001 is the small plug that ends the argument: it reports what the ECU expects to hear, permanently.
Key Features
- Simulates the original side stand switch on the Aprilia RS 457
- The bike starts and runs with the stand removed entirely
- Plug-and-play — the factory connector unplugs from the switch and plugs into this
- No cutting, no splicing, no changes to the loom
- Small enough to disappear behind the fairing lower
- Fully reversible: the standard switch refits in minutes
Why Race Bikes Lose the Stand
A side stand is dead weight on a circuit and a scrutineering point at most clubs. Take it off a standard RS 457 and the switch goes with it, at which point the ECU sees an open circuit and refuses to start the engine. Bridging the connector by hand works until it corrodes or vibrates loose; a moulded eliminator does the same job with a sealed contact and no chance of it falling out on the warm-up lap.
What It Does Not Do
This device tells the ECU the stand is up. It does not disable any other interlock, and it changes nothing about how the engine runs. If your RS 457 still has its stand fitted, the eliminator makes no difference to anything — it earns its place the moment the stand is in the van rather than on the bike.
Fitment and Compatibility

Road Approval
None. Defeating the side stand interlock removes a safety function that forms part of the motorcycle's type approval. The JP ES 001 is sold for closed-circuit and competition use only, and a road-registered RS 457 fitted with it is no longer compliant.
Fitting It
The side stand switch on the RS 457 sits on the frame just ahead of the stand pivot, on a short lead with a two-pin connector. Unclip the connector, pull the switch with the stand, and plug the eliminator into the loom side. There is nothing to adjust and nothing to test beyond turning the ignition on and watching the neutral and stand indicators behave. Most riders tuck the eliminator up behind the lower fairing and forget about it for the rest of the season.
Before You Order
Check that your RS 457 still has the original switch and connector — if a previous owner has already bridged the circuit with a hand-made jumper, that jumper has to come out first. It is worth doing: a soldered loop with heatshrink over it is exactly the kind of repair that works for two seasons and then fails on a warm-up lap.
