DescriptionThe whole story▼
Twenty minutes, and both the panniers and the centre stand stay where they are. On a V-Strom — a motorcycle bought precisely because it carries things and stands up on its own — those two facts decide more purchases than any dyno figure.
Key Features
- 4.42 kg against the standard 5.74 kg: 1.3 kg and 23 per cent less
- Twenty minutes to fit, with no remapping required
- Titanium muffler outer sleeve with a carbon fibre end cap
- Compatible with the Suzuki side cases and the centre stand
- Fits the V-Strom 1000, the 1050, and the 1050DE and Tech versions
- 1.4 PS (1.0 kW) more at 7,200 rpm and 1.2 Nm more at the same speed
- EC and ECE type approved — with one restriction, below
One Restriction on the Certificate
Akrapovic states that the EC/ECE type-approval certificate is not valid for Euro 5+ vehicles. The V-Strom family moved to Euro 5+ for the most recent machines, so if your bike was first registered under that standard, the certificate supplied with this silencer does not cover it. The part may still fit; the paperwork does not follow.
If you are unsure which standard your V-Strom was homologated to, the registration document says so — or ask us with the model year and we will check before you order.
Two Generations of the Same Idea
The V-Strom 1000 ran from 2014 to 2019; the 1050 replaced it in 2020 with new bodywork, a redesigned front end and updated electronics, keeping the 1,037 cc V-twin and the exhaust mounting. Akrapovic measured this system on a 2020 V-Strom 1050, so the published figures belong to that machine. On a 2015 V-Strom 1000 the part fits identically and the weight saving is the same.
The 1050DE, with its 21-inch front wheel and longer travel, and the Tech version both take the same silencer.
The Centre Stand Is Not a Detail
A V-Strom is a chain-driven motorcycle that gets ridden long distances, which means the chain gets cleaned and adjusted regularly — and that happens with the bike on its centre stand. An aftermarket silencer that fouls the stand does not merely look wrong; it removes the one tool the owner uses most.
Akrapovic dimensioned this system around both the centre stand and the Suzuki side cases, so nothing has to be removed to maintain the bike or to load it. Combined with the 20-minute installation, it is one of the least disruptive upgrades available for this machine.
