DescriptionThe whole story▼
1.42 kg, and it covers four motorcycles that share nothing but a platform: the naked GSX-S1000, the faired GT, the retro Katana and the tall GX crossover. Suzuki built four very different bikes on one exhaust interface.
Key Features
- 1.42 kg against the standard 2.43 kg: 1.01 kg and 41.6 per cent less
- Titanium outer sleeve for a genuine racing look
- 2.6 PS more at 10,250 rpm and 1.6 Nm at 9,900 rpm
- Optimised to meet EC and ECE approval without giving up the sportier sound
- Removable noise insert included
- Fits the GSX-S1000, GT, Katana and GX
- Thirty minutes to fit
Four Bikes, One Silencer
The GX is the outlier — a tall adventure-styled crossover on sports-bike underpinnings, introduced in 2024. It takes the same silencer as the naked GSX-S1000 from 2021, the GT sports tourer and the Katana.
For a dealer that is a useful part to stock. For an owner it means the exhaust moves across if the next bike is another Suzuki on this platform.
A Light Standard Silencer to Start With
Suzuki's original weighs only 2.43 kg, which is light for a Euro 5 unit on a litre bike. The 41.6 per cent saving is therefore about one kilogram in absolute terms — a real number, but smaller than the percentage suggests.
We give both figures rather than the flattering one.
Approval Without a Muted Sound
Akrapovic states the muffler assembly was optimised to meet EC and ECE approval without compromising the improved and sporty sound. That is the difficult part of designing a legal exhaust — the easy way to pass a noise test is simply to damp more.
The removable insert belongs in place for road use. Taking it out changes the exhaust from the condition it was approved in.
Keep the Insert With the Bike
The removable noise insert is a small part that is easy to lose in a garage drawer. Without it the exhaust no longer matches the condition in which it was approved, so it belongs with the motorcycle rather than on a shelf.
A K5 Engine, Still
The GSX-S1000 family runs a descendant of the 2005 GSX-R1000 engine, detuned for the road and updated for Euro 5. It is an engine with a long history of responding well to exhaust work, and 2.6 PS at 10,250 rpm on a Euro 5 machine is a respectable result for a type-approved slip-on.
One Kilogram, Honestly Stated
41.6 per cent sounds larger than 1.01 kg does, and both describe the same change. On a 214 kg GSX-S1000 the absolute figure is the one that matters, and it is modest.
What this exhaust actually delivers is the titanium look, a sportier sound inside the legal limit, and 2.6 PS near the top of the range.
Four Model Names, One Order
GSX-S1000, GSX-S1000GT, Katana and GSX-S1000GX. If your registration document says any of those and the year is 2021 or later, this is the part. Machines from 2015 to 2020 take a different one.
Fitment and Compatibility
S-S10SO19-HAPT covers the Suzuki GSX-S1000 and GSX-S1000GT from 2021, the Katana from 2022 and the GSX-S1000GX from 2024, through 2026. Machines from 2015 to 2020 take S-S10SO15-HAPT/1.
