DescriptionThe whole story▼
This one is quieter than the exhaust it replaces. 92.9 dB against the standard system's 94.8 dB, measured by Akrapovic — a rare thing on an aftermarket silencer, and worth knowing before you assume every titanium part is a noise upgrade. What you gain instead is 1.65 kg and 4.3 Nm at 2,050 rpm.
Key Features
- 92.9 dB against the standard 94.8 dB: measurably quieter, not louder
- 3.19 kg against the standard 4.84 kg: 1.65 kg and 34.1 per cent less
- 4.3 Nm more at 2,050 rpm — just above idle, where an Africa Twin works in the dirt
- Hexagonal muffler with a double-flow outlet, drawn from the shape Honda's rally machines carried
- Titanium outer sleeve with a carbon fibre clamp
- EC and ECE type approved, noise insert included
- Covers the CRF1000L Africa Twin from 2016 to 2019 and the Adventure Sports from 2018 to 2019
Torque at 2,050 rpm
Two thousand revolutions per minute is barely above idle. It is also the speed a big adventure twin sits at when it is picking its way down a rutted track in first or second gear, and 4.3 Nm there is worth more than a great deal more power at the top. Akrapovic tuned this system for that part of the map, and the sound level is a consequence of the same choice — a system optimised low down does not need to shout.
Rally Shape
The hexagonal cross-section and double-flow outlet are not styling for their own sake. Honda built the original Africa Twin around its Paris–Dakar machines, and Akrapovic drew this silencer to sit in that lineage: compact, tucked, angular in the way the rally bikes were. On a CRF1000L it looks like it should have come that way.
Worth Fitting to a Used Bike
The CRF1000L is now a used motorcycle, and that changes the calculation rather than ending it. A first-generation Africa Twin that has done 60,000 kilometres often has a standard silencer that is corroding at the seam and rattling internally, and replacing it with a titanium unit that will outlast the rest of the bike costs less than most owners expect. The 1.65 kg and the low-rev torque come with it.
The header and catalytic converter stay standard, no remap is required, and the removable noise insert is supplied. Installation is around 30 minutes and completely reversible.
Fitment and Compatibility
S-H10SO22-HWT covers the Honda CRF1000L Africa Twin from model year 2016 through 2019 and the CRF1000L Africa Twin Adventure Sports from 2018 through 2019. For the later CRF1100L generations, see S-H11SO2-HGJT (2020–2023) and S-H11SO4-HAFT (2024–2026).
Road Approval
EC type approval and ECE type approval, certificates supplied and downloadable here. The silencer is a legal replacement part for road use in the European Union — and given the measured sound level, one that gives an inspector nothing to object to.
