DescriptionThe whole story▼
Four point two kilograms. That is what leaves a Kawasaki Z1000SX when the 7.4 kg standard silencer is swapped for this 3.2 kg carbon one — a 56.8 per cent reduction, and the largest saving in this batch. The measured noise level is unchanged at 94 dB, which is the part that lets the bike keep its EC and ECE type approval.
Key Features
- 3.2 kg against the standard 7.4 kg: 4.2 kg gone, a 56.8 per cent reduction
- Carbon fibre muffler outer sleeve with a carbon fibre end cap
- 94 dB at 5,000 rpm, exactly the standard figure — quieter on paper than most riders expect, and completely different to the ear
- 2.0 PS (1.5 kW) more at 10,300 rpm and 1.6 Nm more at 7,700 rpm
- Compatible with the Kawasaki side cases, so a sport tourer stays one
- EC and ECE type approved with certificates supplied
- Noise insert included; installation about an hour, no remapping
Four Kilograms From the Tail
The Z1000SX is a sport tourer, which means it carries a large, heavily silenced standard exhaust to keep a fully loaded machine legal. Replacing it with a carbon slip-on removes more than half that mass, and all of it from behind and above the rear axle — the position where weight most affects how quickly a loaded bike changes direction.
The same system is available with a titanium outer sleeve instead of carbon; both share the carbon fibre end cap. This part number is the carbon version.
Which Bike the Figures Come From
Akrapovic ran this system on a 2014 Z1000SX, the first year of the range this part covers. The 2017 facelift changed the bodywork, the electronics package and the brakes, but not the 1,043 cc engine or the exhaust routing, so the part fits and the character of the gain carries over. The exact figures on this page belong to the 2014 machine.
Stating that is more useful than pretending one dyno run represents seven model years. If your bike is a 2019 Ninja 1000, expect the same behaviour and do not expect the decimal places to match.
Fitment and Compatibility
S-K10SO19-HZC fits the Kawasaki Z1000SX and the Ninja 1000 from model year 2014 through 2020. The Kawasaki side case system mounts over it unchanged, which is the reason many owners of this machine rule out a full system in the first place.
Road Approval
EC type approval and ECE type approval, with the certificates supplied and available for download here. Because the measured sound level matches the standard system exactly, there is no grey area: this is a legal replacement silencer for road use in the European Union.
