DescriptionThe whole story▼
Races in the 85cc class are often decided at the start, and the start is mostly clutch. On a Yamaha YZ85 the rider has to hold the revs in the right place, release the lever smoothly when the gate falls and keep the front wheel down, all within the first second. Those who start well have usually practised it hundreds of times, often on a strip of grass at home. Accossato's C7266 is made for that left hand: a folding clutch lever for the YZ85 from 2015 to 2022, CNC-machined in Italy from Ergal 7075, with a long four-finger blade.

Construction and Material Quality
The C7266 is the long type of Accossato off-road lever, made for the clutch side with space for four fingers. Like its shorter brake-side sibling, it is cut from solid Ergal 7075 on CNC machines in Italy, a choice the company explains with three words: strength, lightness, reliability. Two parts make up the lever. The dark base mounts at the pivot of the original perch and houses the joint, while the blade, black or blue, is the section that can fold forward. The firm behind it was founded in 1969 in Moncalieri, near Turin, as a manufacturer of competition motorcycles.
Start Practice at Home
A good practice start begins before the engine is even running. The rider sits well forward, elbows up, one foot on the peg and the other on the ground, the bike in the gear the surface calls for. With the engine running, the revs are held steady rather than screaming, and the clutch is pulled in and let out to just short of the friction zone. When a helper drops a hand or a flag, the rider releases the lever quickly but not all at once, lets the bike drive forward and changes up as soon as it gathers speed. On a YZ85 each attempt takes a few seconds, and a good session might include twenty or thirty of them.
Not every attempt goes to plan. Let the lever out too fast and the front wheel rears up, the rider pulls the clutch to save it and the bike topples; let it out too slowly and the engine bogs or stalls. Small falls to the left are part of the process, and they often land the clutch lever on hard ground. The C7266's joint gives the blade the possibility of folding forward rather than breaking, which lets the practice go on. It cannot be promised every time, so a spare lever for a young racer's season remains a sensible purchase, but fewer broken levers means more time spent on starts and less in the workshop.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato gives two rows for the Yamaha YZ85 with this clutch lever, 2015 to 2021 and 2015 to 2022, which together cover the model years 2015 to 2022; the C7266 fits the original clutch perch. Older YZ85s, from 2002 to 2014, are not included on the clutch side. The B8262 folding brake lever spans the whole run from 2002 to 2022 and comes in gold and green as well as black and blue.
Road Approval
For the C7266 no German ABE has been documented; the YZ85 lever is supplied for motocross and closed off-road riding.
