DescriptionThe whole story▼
BMW introduced the R nineT to mark ninety years of its motorcycles, and the bike still carries that anniversary in its name. It is a roadster built around the air/oil-cooled boxer, with a round headlight and a deliberately plain outline, the kind of machine on which every visible part is judged by whether it belongs to the look. The Accossato EDB001 replaces the front brake lever of the R nineT from 2014 to 2022. It is machined from aluminium, its reach to the grip can be adjusted, and its blade is offered in finishes from discreet to bold.
Key Features
- Front brake lever for the BMW R nineT, model years 2014 to 2022
- Pivots at the original BMW master cylinder
- Reach to the grip adjustable close to the pivot
- Standard blade approximately 138 mm; short and long in selected colours
- Silver and black among the seven blade colours
- One-piece rigid lever without a folding joint
- No German ABE documented, offered for track use
Construction and Material Quality
Solid aluminium is where the EDB001 begins. Accossato shapes it on CNC machines instead of casting it, then anodises the finished part. Two finishes meet on the lever: the hub, which carries the pivot and the reach adjuster, is black on every example, while the blade takes whichever colour you pick. Anodising grows the colour out of the metal surface rather than laying paint on top, so a silver blade keeps the look of bare machined aluminium and still resists the grime of regular use. From pivot to tip the lever is rigid, with no joint between the master cylinder and your fingers.
Silver, Black and a Classic Outline
Heritage motorcycles tend to look right when their details stay honest: metal that looks like metal, and black wherever the eye should pass on. On the R nineT, the two understated options follow that idea. A silver blade reads as plain aluminium and sits naturally beside the brushed and polished surfaces found on many classic-styled bikes. A black blade merges with the black hub, so the whole lever becomes one dark shape that recedes behind the instruments. Silver is made in the standard and the short length, black as a standard lever only.
Owners who want the lever to make a point can choose gold, blue, green, orange or red instead; on a bike with this much restraint, one coloured blade on each side of the bar is usually statement enough. Accossato has a long history of its own: the company was founded in 1969 in Moncalieri, near Turin, as a maker of competition motorcycles.
Fitment and Compatibility
For this lever, Accossato's list covers the R nineT from 2014 to 2022 and divides it into two stages, the bikes of 2014 to 2016 and those of 2017 to 2022. Riders of an early bike will also find the EDB077 on the list and can compare both with their original lever. On the clutch side, the ESB002 spans 2014 to 2022 and the ESC075 the years 2014 to 2016. The listing refers to the R nineT roadster itself; the later derivatives of the family are not named in it.
Road Approval
No German ABE is on record for the EDB001, which is why we sell it for use on closed tracks.
