The Audace is the California with the chrome taken off and the attitude turned up — blacked out, stripped of the screen and panniers, built around the idea that 1380 cc of air-cooled twin does not need decoration to make its point. What it makes its point with is torque arriving immediately, from just above idle, and that is a specific vulnerability. A bike whose entire appeal sits in the bottom third of the rev range has nowhere to hide a restricted intake. The Sprint Filter P08 PM01S keeps it where Moto Guzzi set it.

Torque is what you notice losing

Pulling away from a junction and rolling on in top gear are both transients — the engine asking for a step change in airflow rather than holding a steady state. Because the pressure drop across a filter rises with flow, a partly loaded element costs most exactly there. A high-revving engine can disguise the loss in the rush at the top; this one cannot. Nothing registers as a fault, the Audace simply becomes a little less effortless in the way that made you choose it over something more sensible.

Nothing visible changes

On a bike this deliberately styled that matters. The element sits inside the standard airbox where Moto Guzzi put a filter, the intake stays sealed, and there is no exposed cone, no adapter, no aftermarket look — just a lower restriction and a part that does not need replacing.

Care and cleaning

Blow it through from the clean side with compressed air, working outwards. For a deeper clean, wash in lukewarm water with a mild detergent, rinse until the water runs clear, and dry fully in air — never with heat, never with a flame. Refit dry.
