DescriptionThe whole story▼
The R3 shares its class with the Ninja 400 and a good deal of its paddock culture, including the move to Mectronik engine management on serious builds. JP SPK 015 is the kill switch cut for those bikes: an R3 SuperSport 300 machine running the Mectronik loom.
Key Features
- For R3 race bikes on Mectronik management, 2019 through 2021
- Replaces the ignition block outright — no key, no barrel
- Approximately 350 g removed from the steering head
- Solid-machined Ergal, anodised, with an IP69K push button
- Connects directly to the Mectronik ignition plug
- No immobiliser to accommodate on a full race loom
Not the Standard R3 Part
A road-going R3 on its original Yamaha loom needs the standard kill switch, not this one. The SuperSport version exists because the Mectronik harness terminates the ignition circuit differently. It is a five-second check — look for the Mectronik ECU — and it saves returning a part that was never going to plug in.
Built for a Short, Hard Life
Race bikes get washed more aggressively than road bikes and stored in worse conditions. The IP69K rating on the button covers close-range cleaning with 80 °C water at 100 bar, which is a genuinely severe test and a good deal more than a paddock jet wash will do. The Ergal housing around it is cut from solid, so there is no casting porosity to trap water.
Fitment and Compatibility
- Yamaha R3 with Mectronik management (2019–2021)
Road Approval
None. Competition use only, on closed circuits.
Mounting
The switch occupies the original barrel's footprint and uses its mounting points, so the top yoke needs no modification and nothing has to be drilled. On an R3 that is a short job with the bike on a stand. It is also fully reversible, which is worth remembering if the bike is ever sold on to someone who wants it back on the road.
