DescriptionThe whole story▼

The Ducati Monster 821 arrived in 2015 as the liquid-cooled middle of the Monster range, and it has become a common sight at track days, often unloaded from the back of a van. Accossato lists the FC104 for the Monster 821 from 2015 to 2021, the Stealth version included. The cap is cut entirely from aluminium on CNC machines and is closed by a quick-closing pawl, whose pin you can order in six colours.

Key Features

  • Quick-release fuel tank cap for the Ducati Monster 821, 2015 to 2021
  • Also listed for the Monster 821 Stealth, 2019 to 2021
  • Machined entirely from aluminium on CNC equipment
  • Quick-closing pawl for fast opening and closing
  • Pin in blue, green, black, red, silver or gold
  • Pawl available separately as a spare
  • No German ABE documented; for track use

Construction and Material Quality

At the track, what you notice about the FC104 is the quick-closing pawl: it lets you open the tank and close it again quickly. The rest is material and machining. The cap is made entirely of aluminium on CNC machines, which Accossato says makes it robust and durable. The pawl's pin is offered in six colours, the design is new and attractive, and a replacement pawl is available from Accossato should the original ever be damaged, so the cap itself does not have to be replaced.

In the Van on the Way to the Track

Transporting a Monster 821 to a circuit is straightforward, but the fuel system deserves a thought. Load the bike with a moderate amount of fuel rather than a full tank, strap it down so it stays upright, and check that the cap is closed before the doors shut. If you fit the Accossato cap at home the evening before, do it with the engine cold and give it time to show any weeping before the bike goes in. On arrival, before unloading, look at the filler and the floor of the van; a smell of fuel or a damp patch tells you something needs attention. Carry the fuel can separately, upright and secured, and open the van doors for a few minutes before anyone lights anything nearby. The same order works in reverse at the end of the day.

Fitment and Compatibility

The Monster 821 is on Accossato's list for the FC104 from 2015 to 2021, and so is the 821 Stealth from 2019 to 2021. The Dark and Stripe versions are listed as separate products, and Accossato gives the same cap for the later Monster 937 as well. Check the application list against your bike before ordering.

Road Approval

Accossato documents no German ABE or expert report, so this cap is for the circuit only. On a road-registered Monster 821 the original cap, which locks, stays in place for public roads.
