DescriptionThe whole story▼

A big-bore enduro bike like the Husqvarna FE 501 is happiest in open country, but every loop eventually narrows into a slow, technical section. That is where the size of the engine asks for finesse, because too much drive at walking pace spins the rear tyre or jerks the bike off line. For the FE 501 of 2014 to 2016, Accossato makes the C7283, a folding clutch lever milled from Ergal 7075 in Italy. Its long blade takes four fingers and is attached to its base by a joint that can fold if the bike is dropped.

Key Features

  • Folding clutch lever for the Husqvarna FE 501, 2014 to 2016
  • Installed at the original clutch mount
  • Four-finger blade
  • Anti-break joint lets the blade fold forward in a fall
  • Milled from solid Ergal 7075 in Italy
  • Blade in black, blue, orange or red
  • No German ABE documented; for off-road riding and competition

Construction and Material Quality

Dark at the base and coloured at the blade, the C7283 is built from two separate parts. The base carries the pivot at the FE 501's original clutch control; the blade, in black, blue, orange or red, joins it at a folding joint. Accossato mills both parts from solid Ergal 7075, a high-strength aluminium alloy, on CNC machinery in Italy, intending the lever to be strong, light and reliable. On the clutch side the blade is long, leaving space for all four fingers.

A Big Single at Walking Pace

The temptation on a big four-stroke is to lug it: leave it in second gear, let the torque do the work and barely touch the clutch. On smooth ground that works. In a slow section full of roots, rocks and turns it does not, because at very low revs the engine delivers its drive in lumps, and the rear tyre either spins or the bike stalls. Experienced FE 501 riders keep the engine a little higher, slip the clutch to meter the drive and use the rear brake against it to control speed precisely. It is more work for the left hand, but the bike stays calm.

It also keeps the rider at the edge of balance for long stretches, and even good riders topple when the front wheel stops against a rock. When the FE 501 falls on its left, there is a lot of weight behind the clutch lever. The C7283 is designed so its blade can fold forward in such a fall instead of breaking, and afterwards it can be returned to its normal position. A hard landing may still damage it, but a lever that folds makes it much more likely that the slow section ends with the clutch still working.

Fitment and Compatibility

The C7283 covers the Husqvarna FE 501 from 2014 to 2016 in Accossato's list and replaces the stock lever on the original clutch perch. On the clutch side, Accossato pairs the 2017 FE 501 with the C7284. The B8283 folding brake lever covers 2014 to 2017 and pairs with either. Red is exclusive to the C7283, while black, blue and orange appear in all three ranges.

Road Approval

There is no German ABE on record for the C7283. If your FE 501 is registered for the road, bear in mind that this lever is not approved for public roads; it is made for off-road riding and competition.

Scope of Delivery
