DescriptionThe whole story▼
Motocross tracks built on hillsides have one corner everyone remembers: the one at the bottom of a long, steep downhill. Speed builds on the way down, bumps grow in the approach and the front brake does most of the slowing while the bike still points downhill. The KTM 350 SX-F, which sits between KTM's 250 and 450 motocross four-strokes, carries plenty of speed into a turn like that. Accossato's B8283 fits the 350 SX-F of 2014 to 2022 with a short Ergal 7075 blade for three fingers, hinged so that a tuck at the bottom of the hill need not end the moto.
Key Features
- Folding brake lever for the KTM 350 SX-F, model years 2014 to 2022
- Replaces the stock lever on the front brake master cylinder
- Joint lets the blade fold forward instead of breaking
- Short blade designed for three fingers
- CNC-machined from solid Ergal 7075 in Italy
- Blade in black, blue or orange with a dark base
- Supplied as a single lever
- No German ABE documented; for motocross and off-road use
Construction and Material Quality
From solid Ergal 7075, Accossato's CNC machines in Italy produce the two parts of the B8283: a base in a dark finish and a blade in black, blue or orange. The high-strength aluminium alloy is used for the reasons Accossato gives, strength, low weight and reliability. The base sits on the master cylinder pivot and carries the joint; the blade is mounted on that joint and can fold forward. Of Accossato's two off-road lever designs, this is the shorter one, drawn for three fingers.
Downhill into the Turn
Braking downhill shifts the balance of the bike. Weight moves onto the front tyre, which gives it grip, but it also makes the rear light and the front easy to overload. Fast riders on a 350 SX-F keep their weight back, squeeze the bike with their knees and brake hard but smoothly on the front, easing off before the bumps get too deep and before turning in. The last part of the braking is often done with the bike already leaning, so the lever has to be released gradually rather than dropped, or the front will push. Grabbing it in the ruts at the bottom is the classic way to tuck the front.
When that happens, the fall is short and fast, often onto the right side, and the lever is dragged across hard-packed ground or slammed into the edge of a rut. A solid blade snaps easily at that moment, and on a motocross track a missing brake lever usually ends the session. The B8283 allows its blade to fold away from the impact. A heavy crash can still damage it, but when it comes through, you can pick up the KTM 350 SX-F, rejoin the track and finish the moto.
Fitment and Compatibility
The B8283 is listed by Accossato for the KTM 350 SX-F from 2014 to 2022 and takes the place of the original lever. The 2011 to 2013 bikes have no brake lever in this range. The clutch side, however, is covered from the first year of the 350 SX-F: the C7283 folding clutch lever is listed from 2011 to 2022. Both levers come in black, blue and orange, and the clutch lever is made in red as well.
Road Approval
No German ABE is documented for the B8283. The 350 SX-F is a motocross machine without road registration, and the lever belongs to the same world of tracks and off-road competition.
