DescriptionThe whole story▼
Start the engine of a California Audace 1400, blip the throttle, and the bike rocks gently to one side. That is the signature of Moto Guzzi's transverse V-twin, whose crankshaft runs along the length of the machine, and it is part of the Audace's character. It also shapes how the clutch should be used when moving off. The Accossato ESC023 is a clutch lever for the Audace from 2015 to 2020. It replaces the stock lever on the original clutch mount, is milled from solid aluminium and lets you set the reach.
Key Features

- Mounts at the original clutch mounting
- Reach adjustable by the pivot
- Black anodised hub, blade in one of seven colours
- Short, standard (about 138 mm) and long blades, availability by colour
- Milled from solid aluminium
- One-piece blade without folding joint
- No German ABE documented, for the track
Construction and Material Quality
A block of aluminium, a CNC mill and an anodising bath: those three steps make up the ESC023, and they explain why it feels solid in the hand. Milling from the solid avoids the porosity casting can leave, and anodising turns the surface into a hard, coloured layer, black on the hub and your chosen shade on the blade. The hub carries the pivot and the adjuster. The blade is fixed, with no folding joint, so its position under your fingers stays exactly where you set it.
Smooth Starts With a Shaft Drive
A shaft drive has no chain slack to soften an abrupt start. Dump the clutch with the engine revving and the shunt goes straight through the driveline to the rear tyre, while the engine's torque reaction adds a lean to one side. The California Audace 1400 rewards the opposite approach: moderate revs, a clutch released steadily through its friction zone, and the throttle opened as the drive takes up. The big twin pulls cleanly from low engine speeds, so there is rarely a reason to rev it hard before moving away. That style depends on holding the lever precisely partway out, which in turn depends on reach. Set the ESC023 so your fingers are slightly curled at the moment the clutch begins to bite. The long blade in blue, gold, green or orange lowers the effort for riders who pull with the whole hand, while the standard length, available in every colour, stays closest to the feel of the original.
Fitment and Compatibility
On Accossato's list, the ESC023 covers the California Audace 1400 from 2015 to 2020 under the version name Audace 1400. It replaces the Moto Guzzi clutch lever at its original mounting. The matching EDF023 brake lever is listed for the same range. Black and red blades are only made in standard length, silver in standard and short.
Road Approval
There is no German ABE documented for this clutch lever. We sell it for circuit use.
