The Rush is the newest machine on this fitment list, and it takes an element whose part number reaches back to the F4 of 2013. What changed in between is not the airbox but everything metering what passes through it: a current 1000 measures the incoming air electronically, and the sensors doing it expect that air to arrive clean and dry. That is the strongest practical argument for the P08 cloth in R189S-SBK, and it has nothing to do with power.
Key Features
- Dry polyester throughout its service life — no oil from new, none applied after washing
- Nothing in the medium can be carried downstream onto air sensors or throttle bodies
- 80 microns at 5,050 l/m²/sec, held across roughly double the area of other performance filters
- Built on Sprint Filter's WorldSBK frame and supplied ready to fit
- Straight into the standard airbox — no modification and no remap required
- Washable for the life of the motorcycle, with two years of warranty
Oil is the part that travels
An oiled cotton filter works because a film of tacky oil catches what the weave alone would let past. That film is also mobile: it moves with heat, with airflow and with over-application, and where it ends up is the intake tract downstream. On an engine metering air electronically, a coated sensor reads low or reads late, and the fault it produces is intermittent and irritating to trace. The dry route avoids the question instead of managing it, and it measures better too: 93.13 % of 100-micron particles held back by the P08, against 76.42 % for a four-layer oiled cotton element in the same comparison.
Washing is a design feature, not a repair
Paper cannot be washed. Its fibres swell, distort and never fully recover, so wetting a paper panel ends its life. Polyester is a plastic thread woven at a set spacing, and water passes through without altering that geometry, which is why cleaning is the normal service interval here rather than an emergency measure. The difference in material is what turns a consumable into a component. A machine like the Rush tends to be ridden in short hard bursts and kept immaculate in between, and an element that can be taken out, cleaned and inspected suits that pattern better than one whose condition must be guessed at.
Care and cleaning
Start with compressed air on the clean face, pushing outward so that everything caught leaves by the route it arrived on. Should the cloth still look loaded, tepid water and a mild detergent will lift the rest; rinse until the water coming through is clear. Drying is the step that ruins filters when hurried — open air only, no hot air blower, no radiator, no naked flame, because heat is what polyester will not tolerate. R189S-SBK goes back into the airbox dry, with nothing sprayed or wiped onto it. Full instructions are on the maintenance sheet under Downloads.
Fitment & Compatibility
Cut for the airbox of the MV Agusta Rush 1000 built from 2020 to 2026. The list runs to eight machines: the Brutale Oro and Brutale RR among the naked models, and the F4, F4R, F4RR, F4RC and F4RC LH from 2013 onward.
