For the Streetfighter V4 and V4 S, Sprint Filter catalogues exactly two elements: a P08 and the racing weave on this page. No dust medium and no wet-weather medium is offered in between, which means the choice cannot be handed to a compromise. It is a straight two-way decision, and the thing it turns on is not printed on the registration document. It is what the motorcycle is asked to do — a fact about the owner rather than about the machine, and one only the owner can supply.
Key Features
- A single dry layer of polyester, free of oil when new and left free of oil for good
- 85 µm openings flowing a rated 15,000 l/m²/sec, the fastest medium Sprint Filter builds
- Retention measured at 95.22 % of 100-micron particles, with the P08 cloth at 93.13 %
- About twice as much filtering fabric as other performance filters, held in the original frame
- Goes into the unmodified series airbox in place of the paper panel, with the mapping left alone
- Restored with an air line rather than replaced, specified for the machine's life, two-year guarantee
The question, asked plainly
How many minutes in a year does this bike hold full throttle high in the gears, one gear after another, long enough for the intake to be working at its limit? If the honest answer is none, the 15,000 l/m²/sec is capacity that will never become visible, and it is paid for twice: once at the counter, and again in a weave that is five microns more open during every hour of every ride. If the answer is a track day or several, the position reverses, because that is the one condition under which a filter's flow rating stops being a line on a data sheet.
What neither of the two will do
Both elements sit in a standard housing, and neither of them makes a standard Streetfighter noticeably stronger. Intake, injection and exhaust were developed as one piece of work with a filter already in the path, and swapping the cloth does not rewrite it. What both do is hold the resistance of that one item low and, more usefully, keep it from creeping upward: a paper panel is at its least restrictive on the day it is fitted and climbs steadily until somebody throws it away, whereas a woven element is washed back to where it started as often as you care to.
Care and cleaning
Take the PM160S F1-85 out, hold an air line to its clean face and blow outward, working evenly rather than concentrating on one patch, so the load leaves by the surface it arrived on. Where road film resists air, warm water with a mild washing-up detergent lifts it; rinse until the water runs off clean. Then dry it in ambient air alone, because heat is what damages the polyester, and keep heat guns, radiators and open flames well clear. Refit it dry and untreated. The cleaning sheet is under Downloads.
