What an Enduro Cluster Is
Between a road switch and a race one. It keeps what a rider needs on a trail and drops what belongs to tarmac, which on a bike used off road as often as on it is a more sensible compromise than either extreme.
Aligned Clamp Bolts
This version is drilled for master cylinders whose two clamp bolts sit on a line square to the handlebar. If one is set forward of the other, a different part applies, and the check takes seconds with the bike in front of you.
Room on a Crowded Bar
Hand guards, a navigation mount, a phone holder and often auxiliary light switches all compete for the same stretch of tube. A dedicated drilling sits closer to the cylinder than a universal plate and gives that competition a little more space.
Operated on the Pegs
Standing changes the angle at which the thumb reaches the cluster, and it means the rider is being moved around by the terrain while doing it. A machined step around each control is the only thing that makes a press certain under those conditions.
Sealed Against Dust
Elements sealed inside a body with no moulded seam. On a machine that is hosed down after every ride and covered in fine grit before that, the joint in a moulded assembly is where the trouble starts.
Impact Resistance
The switch is at the outer end of a wide bar on a tall motorcycle. When the bike goes over it lands first, and solid Ergal deforms rather than shattering.
A Deliberately Simple Motorcycle
The Ténéré 700 has no electronics to speak of, which means fewer functions on the handlebar and more room for each. The enduro cluster takes advantage of that rather than fighting it.
