DescriptionThe whole story▼
Six Dzus fasteners hold this one, which tells you something about what it does. The tank cover is not trim: it is the surface the rider's chest and forearms rest on in a tuck, and on a 600 — where riders spend more of the lap flat on the tank than on any other class of bike — it takes real load.
Key Features
- Replaces the standard cover over the tank and airbox area
- Six Dzus quarter-turn fasteners for access without tools
- Avio Fibre Prepreg, autoclave cured
- Gloss black surface, ready for the team's livery
- The main contact area between rider and machine in a full tuck
Six Fasteners and Why They Matter
Nothing on a race bike gets opened more often than the tank area — the filter, the injectors, the loom, the fuel connections all live under it. Six quarter-turn fasteners is a deliberate specification: enough points to hold a large panel flat under a rider's weight, all of them releasing without a tool. The alternative, which is what the standard bike has, is a set of screws that eventually round off from being undone every weekend.
Grip and Body Position
Riders coming from the standard cover notice two things. The surface is harder and less slippery than painted plastic, which helps the inner thigh hold position under braking, and the profile is flatter, which lets the chest sit lower. Most riders end up adding a tank grip pad on top for the knee contact area; the two work together rather than against each other.
