The R9 arrived with a face Yamaha had clearly thought about: twin lights set into a nose that carries functional winglets underneath them, worth a claimed six to seven per cent less front lift in a straight line and up to ten per cent less through a corner. CY20210 is what replaces all of it when the bike goes racing — a single carbon cowl with no lighting apertures at all, moulded to the same frontal shape but built as a panel rather than as a headlight housing.

Why the Cowl Is the Hard Part to Get Right
A front cowl has to do two things that pull against each other. It has to keep its moulded shape at speed, where air pressure is pushing hard against a large, unsupported surface, and it has to stay light, because everything at the front of a motorcycle sits ahead of the steering axis and works against how quickly the bike turns. Carbonin resolve it through the cure rather than through extra material: a prepreg laminate consolidated under autoclave pressure is stiff enough to be built thin, whereas a wet-laid panel of the same weight would flex at the leading edge.
What Changes on the Bike
Removing the standard nose takes the headlights, the indicators and their loom with it. What remains is a cowl that lifts off as one piece for access to the steering head and the front of the airbox — which matters on the R9, because the triple's intake path runs straight up behind this panel. The bike is not road-usable afterwards; that is the deliberate trade.
