DescriptionThe whole story▼
The oldest of the three Yamaha 250 systems, and the one with the smallest weight saving: half a kilogram, 12.5 per cent. Akrapovic measures the torque as unchanged at 25.9 Nm. This is a system bought for the build quality and the durability rather than for a number.
Key Features
- Titanium complete system for the 2014 to 2018 Yamaha 250 four-strokes
- 3.5 kg instead of 4.0 kg
- 37.9 PS at 12,400 rpm, up from 37.3
- Torque identical to standard at 25.9 Nm
- Covers YZ250F, YZ250FX and WR250F across the generation
The honest reading of these numbers
Half a horsepower and no torque gain. Akrapovic publishes it that way, and it is worth saying plainly: on this generation the exhaust is not where the performance is. What you are buying is a titanium system that does not dent, does not rust and weighs half a kilo less than the steel one it replaces.
For a bike that spends its life being crashed, that is a legitimate reason on its own — and it is a different reason from the one that sells the 2019 and 2024 systems.
Evolution or Racing
Akrapovic builds a Racing Line for this same generation, article S-Y2MR15-CIBNTA, with identical measured figures at a lower price. The Evolution Line is the more complete construction; the Racing Line is the shorter route to the same numbers. Both are listed in this shop.
Which years exactly
The YZ250F is covered 2014 to 2018, the YZ250FX 2015 to 2016 and the WR250F 2015 to 2018. Yamaha changed the 250 in 2019, and from that year the system is S-Y2MET15-CIBNTA.
Not for the road
Closed course competition only. No EC or ECE approval, no homologation document.
Why the older generation gains less
Half a horsepower and no torque. The 2014 to 2018 Yamaha 250 was already a well-breathing engine with a long, well-shaped standard header, and there is less for an aftermarket system to correct than on a bike whose factory pipe was built to a cost.
That is a compliment to Yamaha rather than a criticism of Akrapovic, and it is the reason this system is sold on construction rather than on a dyno chart.
Titanium against the standard steel
The half kilogram saved here is smaller than on the later systems because the standard exhaust on this generation was already fairly light. What changes is the material: titanium does not rust from the inside after a wet season, and it dents rather than creasing when the bike goes down.
Over four or five seasons that is the difference between a system that is still serviceable and one that has been replaced twice.
Which bike, which year
The YZ250F is covered from 2014, the YZ250FX and the WR250F from 2015. The FX drops out of the list after 2016 and the YZ and WR run to 2018. If your machine sits at the edge of one of those ranges, check the year on the frame rather than trusting the year it was sold.
Repacking matters more here
This is the oldest system in the group, which means most examples in circulation have been through several seasons. A silencer that has never been repacked will be louder and harsher than the figures suggest, and no exhaust manufacturer can do anything about that from the factory.
