This is a specialist item. A heavy adventure tourer is rarely taken racing, but where an owner does ride the Explorer on closed circuits, in timed sessions or in endurance-style club events, a racing compound designed for sustained hard braking is the relevant choice. For almost everyone else, the other compounds on this plate fit better.

Key Features

AGPA177 front pad in EV2 racing compound

For the Triumph Tiger Explorer (Tiger 1200 Explorer), 2016-2017

Accossato: a top racing compound

For circuit sessions and repeated heavy stops

Two pads per box, one front caliper

Also offered as ST, EV1 and ZXC

Construction and Material Quality

Accossato calls EV2 a top racing compound and says no more than that. It belongs to the part of the range built for circuit heat and repeated hard stops rather than for daily use. The general claims Accossato makes for its pads, slow wear, fade kept down by controlled heat and strong stopping power, apply to this mix as well.

Weight, Heat and the Stopwatch

The sheer mass of an Explorer changes the arithmetic of track riding. Every stop at the end of a straight turns a great deal of speed into heat, and on a heavy bike that heat is higher than on a sports machine. A racing compound is designed to cope with this over a whole session and to deliver its grip consistently lap after lap. It is not intended for cold commutes or slow town traffic, where it may feel very different. Between sessions, check the pads and discs closely, bleed the brakes with fresh fluid before each event and allow for the extra stopping distance of a heavy bike. Riders who mix road and occasional circuit use should look at EV1.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato lists AGPA177 for the front of the Tiger Explorer in 2016 and 2017; the 2012 to 2015 Explorer uses AGPA58. There are two front calipers, so two boxes are needed. The rear pad for the Explorer is AGPA76. Fit pads to both calipers at once and bed them in fully before pushing hard on track.

Road Approval

Our records hold no German ABE or approval for AGPA177EV2; it is sold for racing and competition.

Scope of Delivery

Two EV2 racing front pads, AGPA177, for one caliper.

Specifications

Part number: AGPA177EV2

Compound: EV2 racing

Dimensions: 85 × 50.8 × 8 mm

Friction coefficient: approx. 0.48 at 50 °C, 0.59 at 350–375 °C, 0.48 at 600 °C (Accossato friction chart)

Contents: 2 brake pads, one set for one caliper

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0949/7831/0410/files/AGPA177_6f853322-b0e8-4d18-83c4-7ff700200f85.png?v=1790611102
https://inter-pace.com/en-bn/products/accossato-ev2-front-brake-pads-triumph-tiger-explorer-2016-2017-agpa177ev2
