DescriptionThe whole story▼
Riders who move onto a Kawasaki KX100 are usually jumping further than ever before, and many tracks put a corner straight after a landing. That combination teaches a new skill: getting the bike settled after touchdown and braking hard within a few metres without upsetting it. The KX100, a two-stroke for young riders moving up through the classes, is where many of them learn it. Accossato's folding B8262 replaces the front brake lever on the KX100 from 2001 to 2018; it is machined from solid Ergal 7075 on CNC equipment in Italy.
Key Features
- Folding front brake lever for the Kawasaki KX100, 2001 to 2018
- Fits the original front brake master cylinder in place of the stock lever
- Short blade, designed for three fingers
- Anti-break joint lets the blade fold forward in a crash
- CNC-machined in Italy from solid Ergal 7075
- Blade in black, blue, gold or green on a dark base
- No German ABE documented; for motocross use
Construction and Material Quality
The B8262 consists of two parts of Ergal 7075, each machined from solid on CNC equipment in Italy. Accossato chose this aluminium alloy for its high strength and uses it to build levers that are light and reliable as well as strong. The base, finished dark, fits onto the pivot of the front brake master cylinder and carries the joint. The blade, available in black, blue, gold or green, hangs from that joint and can fold forward if it is hit. It is the short brake-side blade, drawn by Accossato for three fingers.
Land First, Then Brake
The rule coaches repeat is simple: land first, then brake. A front brake squeezed in the air stops the front wheel, and a stopped wheel meeting a downslope can pitch the bike forward. So the rider lands with the brake off, lets the suspension absorb the impact, and only when both wheels are on the ground and the bike is straight begins to squeeze the front brake, building pressure quickly but smoothly. On a KX100 the gap between the landing and the turn can be short, so the eyes should already be on the corner while the bike is still in the air.
Young riders get this wrong in both directions, braking too early and landing with the front wheel stopped, or braking too late and running wide into the fence. The first mistake especially tends to end in a fall, often on the right, with the brake lever taking the blow. The joint of the B8262 gives the blade the possibility of folding forward rather than snapping, which can keep a young racer's practice day on track. It will not make every crash free of damage, and parents will still want to check the lever after each fall, but it may reduce the number of new levers bought over a season on the KX100.
Fitment and Compatibility
For the Kawasaki KX100, Accossato gives the model years 2001 to 2018 for the B8262, which goes onto the bike's original front brake master cylinder. The C7220 folding clutch lever covers the same span in black, gold or green, so blue is available on the brake side only.
Road Approval
The B8262 has no documented German ABE and is supplied for motocross and off-road use on closed tracks.
