DescriptionThe whole story▼

The Tiger Explorer arrived in 2012 as Triumph's big shaft-driven adventure tourer, a three-cylinder bike built for long distances with a passenger and luggage on board. On motorway stages many Explorers spend hours on cruise control, and then the brake lever has a second job besides slowing the bike down: switching the cruise control off. Accossato's EDF014 replaces the brake lever of the Tiger Explorer from 2012 to 2020 with a machined aluminium blade on the original master cylinder, and its reach can be set to your hand.

Key Features

  • Brake lever for the Triumph Tiger Explorer, 2012 to 2020
  • Replaces the original lever on the stock master cylinder
  • Adjustable distance from the grip
  • Standard blade approximately 138 mm; short and long blades in selected colours
  • Aluminium, CNC-machined and anodised
  • Black hub, blade in seven colours
  • Rigid one-piece design
  • No German ABE documented, for track use

Construction and Material Quality

The EDF014 is shaped on CNC machines from solid aluminium and then anodised, which leaves a hard, even surface on both the black hub and the coloured blade. The hub is where the lever turns and where its reach is set, with the adjustment placed close to the pivot so that it stays out from under your fingers. Everything beyond it is blade: one continuous, rigid piece with no fold point. On a bike that covers the distances an Explorer does, that simplicity has a practical side, because there is less that can wear.

Cruise Control and the First Touch

On a motorcycle with cruise control, touching the brake lever is the quickest way to hand speed control back to the rider. The system usually learns about it through the brake light switch at the master cylinder, which reacts to the very first movement of the lever. That has two consequences for a new lever. First, check after fitting that a light touch on the blade switches the brake light on and cancels the cruise control, just as the original lever did. Second, think about where your fingers rest on long stages. Some riders like to keep two fingers hovering over the blade on the motorway; with the reach set very close, a relaxed hand can press it by accident and the cruise control drops out. Set the reach so that the blade sits just clear of your resting fingers, and the Explorer will hold its speed until you actually decide to brake.

Fitment and Compatibility

This lever covers the Tiger Explorer from 2012 to 2020. Accossato files it under the name Tiger 1200 Explorer and also names the Explorer Low of 2016 and 2017 among the versions. The left side of the bike is served by the ESC777 clutch lever for the same years. Long blades are made in blue, gold, green and orange, silver stops at short, and black and red are standard only.

Road Approval

No German ABE is documented for the EDF014. Please regard it as a track part.
