The words in this product name come out of a price list, and a price list has to cover every market its filters are sold into. Somewhere on that list is a rider for whom the dust season is a fixed part of the calendar, who would regard a road-going weave as optimistic. The dusty-conditions material exists because that rider exists. Whether the 1390 Super Duke R reading this lives in comparable air is a question about a postcode and a set of habits, and no catalogue can answer it.

What the material was drawn for

Fine nonwovens exist for air with a mineral load in it: unmade roads, long stretches behind agricultural traffic, seasons when the wind carries what the fields have lost. On sealed European roads ridden by somebody who does not go looking for gravel, the same fabric solves a problem the machine is not having, and the standard weave with its far higher rate is the sounder purchase. Neither is an upgrade in the usual sense — no element dropped into a series airbox makes a series motorcycle noticeably faster.

Reading the published numbers honestly

There are two of them and one is a sacrifice. Fourteen microns describes the filtration rating; 1,800 l/m²/sec describes flow through a square metre of clean fabric. Sprint Filter publishes retention percentages for its woven media but not for this one, so there is no figure to weigh against the rate — the improvement in retention is asserted by the rating, not quantified by a test result. Where the conditions are real the trade is worth making; where they are not, there is nothing to collect and the flow has still been paid.

Care and cleaning

Everything about a PM190P14 is dry, which keeps maintenance simple. Compressed air on the clean face, worked outward, sends the collected load back out through the surface that arrested it, and in ordinary use that is all a service consists of. A heavier load calls for lukewarm water and a mild detergent, rinsed through until the water runs clear, followed by as much drying time as circulating air needs.
