Two fitment lists exist for this airbox and they are not the same length. The standard P08 is catalogued against seven machines; the racing element, PM93S F1-85, against three. Four machines that take the same panel are simply absent from the second list. Nothing about the frame or the seal changed; what changed is the judgement about which machines the specification suits. The BB3 is one of the three that stayed, and why the others fell away is the most useful thing on this page.
Key Features
- Woven polyester in the F1-85 racing specification, used dry and never treated
- Rated 85 microns and 15,000 l/m²/sec — the most open weave and freest flow listed
- Retention measured at 95.22 % on 100-micron particles; the standard P08 returned 93.13 %
- About double the working cloth of a typical performance element
- Drops into the unmodified series airbox where the paper panel sat — nothing cut, no remap
- Brought back with compressed air rather than replaced; two years of guarantee
Reading a catalogue by its omissions
The machines missing from the racing list are the earlier model windows and the one built for covering distance rather than lapping a circuit. An omission is not a warning and not a fitment problem, but it is information, and it points the same way the numbers do. A weave opened toward flow is worth having only where the flow is actually drawn, and it is drawn in whole sessions spent high in the rev range, not on the ride to breakfast.
Who the short list is for
A racing specification is a set of published figures plus an assumed rhythm of inspection: elements looked at between sessions rather than between services. Sprint Filter says of its own products that they are the most widely used air filters in MotoGP, in World Superbike and in the production-based classes; that is the world these figures were set in. A BB3 ridden on public roads at weekends does not supply that rhythm, and the coarser weave is then paid for continuously while the flow is never called on. The standard P08 is catalogued for the same housing and is the better answer in that case. Nothing here adds power either: an element inside an unmodified airbox returns only the restriction it created.
Care and cleaning
In normal use nothing wet is involved: an air line held to the clean face of the PM93S F1-85 and worked outward lifts the load, and the element goes back into the box immediately. Where a wet meeting or a salted road has soaked it, lukewarm water and a mild washing-up detergent finish the job, rinsed until the water runs clear. After that it wants time and moving air and nothing else — no heater, no hot-air gun, no flame. Refit it dry and untreated, pressed evenly into its frame. The maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Listed for the Bimota BB3 of 2014 to 2019, the BMW S 1000 RR of 2010 to 2018 and the BMW HP4 Race of 2017 and 2018 — three machines, all named in the Fitment tab. The same airbox is catalogued with the standard P08 as well, which covers seven machines and suits most road-registered examples.
