Read the fitment list before anything else. Four machines sit on it: the V-Strom 650 in this listing, the 650XT that followed it, the first-generation V-Strom 1000, and a Kawasaki. None of that is an error. An air filter is specified by the housing it seals into, not by the badge on the tank or the displacement on the papers. The Sprint Filter P08 PM114S is the dry, washable element for that housing — a straight swap for the paper panel, airbox and mapping untouched.
Key Features
- One layer of woven polyester, run dry — no filter oil upstream of the throttle bodies
- Filtration at 80 µm with a flow of 5,050 l/m²/sec, the medium built for road and track use
- The polyester thread starts at ø 22 microns; the opening comes from the weave, not from pressed pulp
- Roughly double the filtering surface of other performance filters, so low resistance comes from area
- Fits the standard airbox in the paper panel's place — nothing cut, nothing remapped
- Serviced with compressed air and used again, under two years of warranty from purchase
The airbox decides, not the badge
Suzuki drew this intake around a platform, not a model year, and the platform outlasted several names: the V-Strom 650 from 2003 to 2016, the 650XT after it, the V-Strom 1000 of 2002 to 2010, and the KLV that Kawasaki sold from 2004 to 2006 on the same base. The practical consequence is that the part is ordered by PM114S and by the year in the registration document, not by the name on the tank. A drop-in element does not make a standard V-Strom noticeably stronger; airbox, injection and exhaust were signed off together, and one panel inside that chain does not rewrite it. What it changes is the resistance the filter itself adds — low at the start, and put back to low with an air line instead of a purchase.
Dry polyester, and what a finer weave costs
The P08 filters dry, so there is no oiled film to migrate onto the intake sensors and nothing to re-treat after washing. In Sprint Filter's comparison the dry P08 held 93.13 per cent of 100-micron test particles, against 76.42 per cent for four-layer oiled cotton. Finer media exist and behave as physics says they must: P037 at 37 µm and 4,500 l/m²/sec, P14 at 14 µm and 1,800, T12 at 7 µm and 560, against the P08's 80 µm and 5,050. More retention, less flow, at every step. That is a trade, not a ranking — a T12 is not a better filter than a P08, it is a filter for different air.
Care and cleaning
Most services need nothing more than an air line: compressed air through the element from the clean side outwards, then straight back into the airbox. When a season has left more than dust, wash it in lukewarm water with a mild detergent, rinse until the water runs clear and let it dry completely in open air — never with heat, never with a flame. The maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Made for the Suzuki V-Strom 650, 2003 to 2016, as a direct replacement in the standard airbox. Four machines share this element; the complete list is in the Fitment tab.
