A scored piston face means oil bypasses the shims entirely.

Key Features

Original Öhlins service part

Öhlins part number 04773-05

Function

There is no measurement to check here — the number and the exploded view identify it. Öhlins uses a piston band rather than metal-to-metal contact, which is what keeps the bore intact. Piston bands are consumables — they wear against the bore and lose their seal gradually. A worn piston band lets oil past the outside of the piston, which shows up as damping that has gone soft.

Why the Original

Suspension is one of the few areas where the original part is genuinely the cheaper decision. Öhlins publishes dimensions for its service parts so a workshop can verify before it fits. Öhlins parts are unit-specific: a close dimension is not a substitute. Service parts are ordered per piece unless stated otherwise.

Getting the Number Right

Order under 04773-05. Where several sizes share a description, only the number separates them. Öhlins does not publish a dimension here — go by the number and the exploded view. Jets meter fixed bleed flow and are sized in tenths of a millimetre. Replacing a piston is a workshop job because the shim stack has to be rebuilt in the correct order.

Fitting and Setup Service

Öhlins recommends that its units are serviced by an authorised centre. We are one: rebuild, revalve and setup all happen in our own workshop.

Specifications

Brand: Öhlins

Part Number: 04773-05

Category: Piston Holders

Country of Origin: Sweden

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0949/7831/0410/files/04773-05_1fe7f33f-402a-40f1-a98b-1298997635a0.png?v=1788873516
