mt-helmets-aeris-cover-c2-matt-grey-navy-helmet
MT-Helmets Aeris Cover C2 Jet Helmet – Matt Grey / Navy

The Aeris is MT's style-led jet: a large visor, a clean shell and, in Cover C2, a pale grey body with a deep navy panel sweeping across the rear. It is the cheapest helmet we sell that still clears ECE 22.06 without asking for a discount on anything else.

First, the thing a jet helmet does not do

An open-face helmet has no chin bar. In frontal impacts the chin and jaw take a large share of the load, and this helmet leaves them exposed — that is not a defect, it is the category.

Buy a jet because you want air, peripheral vision and a helmet you can talk in at a fuel stop. Do not buy one expecting full-face protection at a lower price, and do not let anyone sell you one on that basis. If your riding is fast road or motorway, a full-face is the honest recommendation and we have plenty of them.

About the Cover C2 finish

The shell is a pale and slightly warm grey, matt throughout, with a deep navy panel wrapping around the rear quarter and a fine stripe pattern breaking the transition. The vent trims and the visor mechanism cover are gloss black, the MT logo sits small and tonal on the side.

Matt on a light grey is a practical choice as well as a quiet one: it hides the fine scuffing a jet picks up from being carried by the strap, hung on mirrors and set down on café tables — which is most of what happens to a helmet in this class.

What ECE 22.06 tests, and what it means on a jet

The current European standard, mandatory since January 2024, is a genuinely harder test than the 22.05 it replaced: 18 impact points instead of five, several impact speeds, an oblique impact against an abrasive anvil to measure rotational loading, and a Brain Injury Criterion limit alongside the old peak-deceleration figure.

A jet is tested to the same standard as a full-face — but only on the area it covers. 22.06 does not certify a chin bar that is not there. MT additionally lists DOT for the Aeris.

Two shell sizes across seven helmet sizes

MT builds the Aeris in two outer shell sizes for a range running XXS to XXL. That is honest for the price and worth knowing before you order.

Two shells over seven sizes means the difference is made up in padding. A helmet at the small end of a shell sits a little larger on your head than its number suggests, and the fit at the shell boundary is approximate rather than precise. Try the size the chart gives you rather than ordering by tape measure alone — and if you are between sizes, take the smaller one, because new padding settles a few millimetres in the first hours.

Variable-density EPS

The impact liner is variable-density EPS: softer foam where the standard's impact energies are lower, denser where they are higher. On a shell this size that is the main lever a maker has, because there is less material to work with than on a full-face.

EPS crushes once. It does not spring back, and it does not tell you it has been used — which is why any helmet that has taken a real impact is finished regardless of how it looks.

The V-26 visor

The Aeris carries a long V-26 visor with high optical quality and impact-resistant material, mounted on a mechanism capped by the MT logo — one of the details that gives this helmet its face.

A smoked version is available separately and is not included. There is no drop-down sun visor on the Aeris, so if you ride into low sun regularly, budget for the tinted V-26 or keep sunglasses in the jacket.

Air in and air out

Upper intakes feed the shell and a rear extraction pulls the air back out. On a jet the aperture itself does much of the work, so the vent system is there for the crown rather than for the face — which is exactly where an open-face gets hot in traffic.

Interior and closure

The lining is anti-allergenic, removable and washable, which on a helmet used for short urban trips in summer is not a luxury: a jet lining collects sweat faster than a full-face because there is more airflow across it and less of it in total.

Retention is a micrometric buckle, revised by MT's engineering team. Quick in gloves, adjustable by one tooth at a time, and the right choice on a helmet you fasten several times a day.

What it does not have

No chin bar — see above. This is the category, not a shortcoming.

No drop-down sun visor. The tinted V-26 is an extra.

No independent safety rating. SHARP has not tested the Aeris; no ADAC or Snell result exists. It is untested rather than poorly rated, and we would rather say so than borrow a number from another MT model.

Two shells for seven sizes — precise enough at the price, less precise than a three-shell helmet.

Where it sits

At €79.95 the Aeris is the entry point to our MT jets. Above it sit the Street S and Viale SV S, and then the Cosmo SV, which adds a drop-down sun visor, the MT-QVSS tool-free visor swap and a removable rear deflector.

If a sun visor matters to you, the extra spend on a Cosmo SV buys exactly that. If it does not, the Aeris gives you the same ECE 22.06 floor with a nicer shell shape and money left over for gloves.

In the box

MT Aeris helmet — Cover C2, matt grey and navy

Protective cover

User manual with QR code

The clear V-26 visor is fitted.
