DescriptionThe whole story▼
When race-proven suspension engineering meets the demands of the Yamaha YZF-R1 and R1M, rider safety and control are the absolute priority. The K-Tech DDS Pro rear shock absorber — part number 255-015-270-020 — is a precision-built, five-way adjustable unit developed at the highest levels of professional motorsport, including the British Superbike Championship and the Isle of Man TT, and carries that pedigree directly to your chassis.
Key Features
- Five-way adjustability provides a comprehensive, track-verified setup range covering compression, rebound, ByPass Valve (BPV) damping, hydraulic preload and ride-height adjustment
- 32-click compression adjustment and 32-click rebound adjustment for highly granular, repeatable damping control at every corner entry and exit
- 16-click ByPass Valve (BPV) setting independently manages low-speed shaft movement for superior traction under acceleration and on imperfect surfaces
- Hydraulic spring preload adjustment allows fast, tool-free changes between sessions or rider weights without compromising consistency
- Length adjustment enables precise geometry tuning — alter ride height to suit track layout or rider preference without swapping components
- CNC-machined high-performance components ensure dimensional accuracy, rigidity and long service life under sustained race loads
- Integrated potentiometer mounting points make the DDS Pro fully telemetry-ready for data-driven setup development
Engineering and Build Quality
The DDS Pro is built around K-Tech's ByPass Valve technology — a circuit that operates in parallel with the main damping stack to control the shock's behaviour during the initial, small-amplitude shaft movements that occur under braking stability, mid-corner balance and drive traction. Where a conventional shock can feel either too stiff for road irregularities or too soft for weight transfer control, the BPV resolves this conflict with a dedicated 16-click adjustment that is completely independent of the main compression circuit. The result is a shock that can be precisely calibrated to the specific demands of a given track, tyre compound or rider style.
All primary structural components are CNC-machined from high-grade aluminium and steel to K-Tech's own tolerances, using the same processes applied to units supplied to World Superbike and British Superbike teams. The 35 mm body diameter and 12 mm shaft diameter are sized for the stress profile of the YZF-R1/M's rear linkage. With a 318 mm eye-to-eye length and 62 mm stroke, the unit is engineered as a direct fitment replacement for chassis codes RN32, RN49 and RN65.
Performance on Road and Track
The DDS Pro's five adjustment circuits work together to give a level of setup resolution that simply cannot be achieved with an OEM or entry-level aftermarket unit. Compression and rebound each offer 32 individually detented clicks — far beyond what most shocks provide — so incremental changes are always consistent and easy to reverse. The BPV circuit adds a third damping layer that keeps the chassis planted and communicative over the small bumps and surface changes that riders encounter every lap. Hydraulic preload means spring rate changes are made in seconds, not minutes, and ride-height adjustment closes the loop on geometry without requiring a separate tool kit.
For riders who use data acquisition systems, the telemetry-ready potentiometer mounting points allow suspension displacement to be logged alongside throttle, brake and lean-angle channels — the same approach used by professional race engineers to find the last fractions of a second.
Fitment and Compatibility
This shock absorber is specifically engineered for the following Yamaha models:
- Yamaha YZF-R1 — chassis codes RN32, RN49, RN65 — model years 2015 to 2026
- Yamaha YZF-R1M — chassis codes RN32, RN49, RN65 — model years 2015 to 2026
Installation requires specialist tools and detailed knowledge of the YZF-R1/M rear suspension linkage. K-Tech strongly recommends fitting by an authorised K-Tech Service Centre to ensure correct setup and maximum safety.
