DescriptionThe whole story▼

There is a calculation that most owners of a CB650F make sooner or later. A workshop oil service costs a certain amount each time; a drain plug washer, a filter, the right oil and an hour of your own time cost rather less, and after the second or third occasion the tools have paid for themselves. What tips the balance is usually how pleasant the job is to do, and that depends on small things such as whether the filler cap comes out without an argument. Accossato's FP004 is aluminium, M20x2.5 and available in eight anodised colours.

Key Features

  • Oil filler cap for the Honda CB650F, 2014 to 2018
  • M20x2.5 thread, the size quoted by Accossato
  • Aluminium, machined on CNC equipment and anodised
  • Eight colours: blue, green, black, orange, red, silver, titanium, gold
  • Usable on other motorcycles with a filler of the same size
  • Knurled form designed to be turned by hand
  • No German ABE on record; sold for competition use

Construction and Material Quality

Aluminium is what the FP004 is made of, CNC machining is how it gets its shape, and anodising is where the eight colours come from. That finish is formed in the surface of the metal, so the shade you choose survives being handled at every oil change rather than fading at the edges. The single dimension Accossato puts in writing is the thread, M20x2.5, since that is the figure that decides whether a cap belongs on an engine; the maker covers the applications on its own list and states that machines elsewhere with the same filler size are suitable as well.

A Job Worth Owning

Doing your own oil on a CB650F is mostly about method. Work when the engine is cold, put the machine in the position the owner's manual describes and read the level there, rather than adopting whatever stance the garage floor suggests. Clean the area around the filler before it is opened, every time, because the one thing this job can genuinely get wrong is letting dirt into the engine. Inspect the thread and the sealing face on cap and cover, and wipe them if anything has collected. Add oil in stages, using the grade the manual names, and check the level between each rather than trusting the quantity on the bottle. Turn the FP004 in by hand until it seats and stop there; no spanner belongs anywhere near it. Note the date and the mileage somewhere you will find again, then ride and look underneath afterwards. Over a few years that record is worth real money when the bike changes hands, and the work itself has cost you an hour at a time.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato lists the FP004 for the CB650F from 2014 to 2018. Because the fit depends on the M20x2.5 thread, other motorcycles with that filler size are covered too, and the same cap appears in our catalogue for the Monster 821, the Hypermotard 950 SP and the DesertX. If the engine cover has been changed at some point, or a previous owner fitted a cap of unknown origin, measure the thread before placing an order.

Road Approval

We are not able to show an ABE or a test document for the FP004, which is why it is offered here for racing and competition use.
