DescriptionThe whole story▼

For many riders the BMW R1200GS is the adventure bike, the machine that shaped a whole category, and a boxer that owners happily take far beyond the end of the tarmac. Plenty of them first learn to handle it on loose surfaces at off-road training grounds, where instructors teach balance, throttle control and what to do when things go wrong. Accossato's FC103 is a quick-release fuel tank cap for the R1200GS of 2006 to 2019, CNC-machined entirely from aluminium, with a pawl in the colour you choose.

Key Features

  • Quick-release fuel tank cap for the BMW R1200GS, 2006 to 2019
  • One undivided entry on Accossato's application list
  • CNC-machined entirely from aluminium
  • Quick-closing pawl
  • Six pin colours
  • Replacement pawl sold separately
  • No German ABE documented; for the track and closed off-road ground

Construction and Material Quality

Solid aluminium, CNC-machined, is what the FC103 is made of, and Accossato states that it is robust and durable. The design is new. The R1200GS's tank is opened and closed with a quick-closing pawl, quickly in both directions. That pawl is available in blue, green, black, red, silver or gold, and it can be bought as a spare in case it gets damaged.

Picking Up a Boxer

Every off-road course for GS riders includes the same lesson sooner or later: how to lift a big boxer that has gone over on soft ground. Instructors teach riders to turn the bars fully, put the bike in gear, stand with their back to the seat, grip the bar and a solid point at the rear, and walk it up with the legs rather than the back. A fall at walking pace rarely does much harm to an R1200GS, but it is a good moment to look the bike over before riding on: levers, mirrors, footpegs and the tank area. Check that the FC103 is still closed and that the pawl has not taken a knock. If fuel is weeping around the cap after a fall, find the cause before continuing; a damaged pawl can be replaced separately.

Fitment and Compatibility

Accossato lists the R 1200 GS from 2006 to 2019 for the FC103 as a single entry. At Inter-Pace the same cap is also listed for the R1200GS Adventure and the F800GS. Look up your model year on the application list before ordering.

Road Approval

No German ABE and no parts certificate are documented for the FC103; it is intended for the track and closed off-road ground. The R1200GS keeps its original cap, which normally locks with the ignition key, for public roads.

Scope of Delivery
