DescriptionThe whole story▼
Take a V-Strom 650 onto gravel tracks and sooner or later you meet water across the way: a shallow ford, a flooded dip, a stream that has spilled over a forest road. Crossing it calmly is almost entirely a matter of the left hand. Accossato's ESS248 is a machined aluminium clutch lever for the DL650 V-Strom, listed from 2011 to 2025, with an adjustable distance to the grip and blades in three lengths, depending on the colour.
Key Features
- Clutch lever for the Suzuki DL650 V-Strom, 2011 to 2025
- Mounts at the original clutch mounting
- Distance from the grip adjustable
- Long blade for a lighter pull in blue, gold, green and orange
- Standard length roughly 138 mm; short blade in five colours
- CNC-machined aluminium with anodised finish and black hub
- Fixed blade, nothing to fold
Construction and Material Quality
Grit, mud and water find their way into every joint on a motorcycle, which is one reason a fixed lever makes sense away from tarmac: the ESS248 has no hinge between hub and tip where dirt could collect. Accossato mills it from aluminium on CNC machines and anodises it afterwards, the hub in black and the blade in the colour you choose. The anodised layer is part of the metal, so there is no paint for water to creep under. Pivot and reach adjuster both sit in the hub.
Through a Ford at Walking Pace
The technique for crossing water is simple, and the clutch does most of the work. Look at the exit rather than the water, pick a line, and ride in at a steady walking pace in first gear. Keep the revs a little above tickover and let the clutch slip just enough to hold that speed; shutting the throttle or dropping the clutch midstream is how bikes stall and riders end up with wet boots. The crossing itself may last only seconds, but for all of it your fingers are holding the lever somewhere in the friction zone, and that is only comfortable if the zone sits where your hand is strong. Adjust the ESS248 so that take-up begins with your fingers bent at the middle joints, then check it again in the gloves you wear off road, which are often thinner than touring gloves. The long blade makes holding the lever part-way less tiring, a small gain that adds up over a day of tracks, gates and loose surfaces on the V-Strom 650.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato lists the ESS248 for the DL650 V-Strom from 2011 to 2025, fitting at the original clutch mounting. The matching EDF014 brake lever covers the V-Strom 650 from 2004 to 2025, so a pair in the same colour is possible on any bike from 2011 onwards. Red and black are made as standard levers only, silver as standard or short.
Road Approval
The ESS248 is sold for the track, as no German ABE has been documented for it.
