DescriptionThe whole story▼

Most riders come to a K 1300 R from another motorcycle, and they bring that motorcycle's habits with them. The left hand in particular has learned exactly where the clutch starts to bite and how far to let it out before adding throttle. On a new bike that knowledge is slightly wrong, and with the K 1300 R's big four answering the throttle briskly, the first few junctions can be jerky. The ESB002, Accossato's CNC-machined clutch lever for the K 1300 R of 2009 to 2016, has an adjustable reach that helps you move the bite point to where your hand expects it.

Key Features

  • Clutch lever for the BMW K 1300 R, 2009 to 2016
  • Mounts at the original clutch mounting
  • Adjustable distance from the grip
  • Standard length about 138 mm; also short and long in selected colours
  • CNC-machined aluminium with anodised finish
  • Black hub, blade in black, blue, red, orange, gold, silver or green
  • Fixed blade, no folding joint

Construction and Material Quality

The ESB002 is anodised in two tones for a reason. Its hub sits right next to the switch housing and the clutch mounting, and there it is black, so it blends in with the parts around it. The blade, which the eye actually follows, carries the colour you choose. Both are one piece: Accossato machines the lever from aluminium on CNC equipment, with the pivot bore and the reach adjuster in the hub and a fixed blade that runs to its tip without a joint.

Old Habits on a New Bike

Muscle memory is a good thing until the motorcycle changes. After years on one bike, your fingers let the clutch out to a precise point and pause there without any conscious thought. On a different bike, that point may sit further out or closer in, and the take-up may be quicker or softer. The result is a stall or a lurch, usually in front of other people. You will relearn it, but you can also shorten the process. Sit on your old bike, if you still have it, and note roughly where the lever bites in relation to the grip. Then set the ESB002 on the K 1300 R so that its bite point lands in a similar place. After that, spend ten minutes in an empty car park pulling away, stopping and pulling away again, until the new clutch feels familiar. The short blade suits riders used to two-finger clutch work; the long one gives a lighter pull for those used to four.

Fitment and Compatibility

Two entries in Accossato's list, 2009 to 2013 and 2009 to 2016, cover the K 1300 R with the ESB002. It fits the original clutch mounting in place of the BMW lever. The companion brake lever for the K 1300 R is the EDB001, which shares the black hub and the colour range.

Road Approval

For German road use, no ABE has been documented for the ESB002, which we therefore sell as a track part.
