What makes a long ride on a small bike work is that nothing on it needs specialist attention en route, and consumables are the usual weak point in that plan. An air filter is the one most likely to be wanted at the end of a dry stage rather than the start of it. The Sprint Filter P14 PM198P14 takes it off the packing list: a dry non-woven element at 14 microns, cleaned rather than replaced.

Key Features

Dry non-woven medium, never oiled — nothing to carry along and nothing to reapply

Filtration to 14 microns; air flow 1,800 l/m²/sec

Roughly twice the filtering area of other performance filters

The standard airbox takes it as a direct replacement — no modification, no remap

Compressed air is the service, and every tyre shop in every country has some

Two years of warranty, designed to last the life of the motorcycle

Maintenance that does not depend on a parts counter

Away from home a paper element is a dependency with a delivery time attached, and on a model sold under different names in different markets the part number is not always the conversation it should be. A washable element makes the question disappear. Twenty minutes wherever there is a compressor, or lukewarm water and mild detergent where there is not — which is everywhere. That is the practical reason travellers move to a dry medium, and it has nothing at all to do with performance.

Which medium for which ground

Sprint Filter builds the same element in several fabrics because the right one depends on where the bike is going rather than what it is. The P08 is the road and track medium at 80 microns and 5,050 l/m²/sec. This P14 trades flow for retention at 14 microns and 1,800, which is the sensible balance for long dry stages and unsealed surfaces. For genuinely extreme ground there is the T12 at 7 microns, which gives up more flow again. It is a line, not a ladder — and a trip on a bike like this can cross more than one point on it. Whichever fabric is fitted, the airbox itself is untouched: same box, same lid, same inlet, same mounting, no remapping in either direction.

Care and cleaning

Compressed air from the clean side of the PM198P14, worked outwards, then refit dry. Where there is no compressor, lukewarm water with a mild detergent does the job just as well; rinse until the water runs clear and let it dry fully in air — never with heat, never near a flame, however tempting a hot afternoon makes it. Nothing is oiled at any stage.
