Two numbers describe this element with any certainty, and they are the only two: 14 microns and 1,800 litres per square metre per second. How much of a dust load it holds back, how much material is folded inside the housing, how many kilometres pass before airflow measurably drops — none of that is published anywhere. It is an unusual way to open a product page. On a Brivido R 500 it is also the honest one, because what this part asks the owner to judge is conditions, not specifications.

The figures that exist, and the ones that do not

Sprint Filter does publish retention percentages, but for its woven materials: the standard road element is quoted at 93.13 per cent of 100-micron particles, against 76.42 per cent for four-layer oiled cotton. Nothing comparable has been released for this non-woven. Carrying the woven figures across would be easy and would be wrong: they were measured on another material against another particle size. So the label stands alone, and what it states is a rating and a rate. That is enough to choose with, and no more than that should be claimed.

Choosing without a percentage

The useful question is what the machine actually breathes over a year. Unsurfaced access roads, a commute behind slow traffic in a dry spell, roadworks, farm dust in late summer: that is the ground this medium was drawn for, and none of it requires leaving tarmac. If a season looks nothing like that, the standard element at 80 microns and 5,050 l/m²/sec is the better match and its flow costs nothing. Either way, no element in a series airbox makes a standard Brivido R noticeably stronger. The gain is a stable, low intake resistance and a filter that is serviced instead of ordered.

Care and cleaning

Servicing is a habit rather than a diary entry. After dusty riding, lift the element out, look at it, and blow it through from the clean face outward, the air line held back far enough not to distort the material. A greasy deposit calls for lukewarm water and a little household detergent, rinsed until the water runs clear.
