MT-Helmets Streetfighter SV S Special Pure T2 – Matt Grey, Iridescent Visor

One helmet, four configurations. The chin guard comes off, the visor comes off, and each can go on or stay off independently — so the Streetfighter SV S is a full-face, a streetfighter without a visor, a jet with a screen, or an open jet, depending on what is in your hand that morning. Special Pure T2 is that helmet in plain matt gunmetal with an iridescent screen.

Four configurations, and what they mean for your face

This has to come first, because the marketing for convertible helmets rarely says it.

With the chin guard removed, this is an open-face helmet. Your chin and jaw are unprotected, exactly as on any jet. That is not a defect — it is the configuration you chose — but it is a real change in what the helmet does, and it happens with a couple of clips rather than with a purchase.

The honest way to use a helmet like this: chin guard on for anything faster than town traffic, off for slow urban riding in summer when you want air. What it removes is the need to own two helmets for those two jobs.

What the iridescent screen is

The colours are on the visor, not on the shell. The helmet itself is a single flat dark grey.

The effect comes from a vapour-deposited metal-oxide coating a few hundred nanometres thick: light reflecting from the front surface interferes with light reflecting from the layer beneath, and which wavelengths cancel depends on the angle you look from — so the colour shifts as you or the light move. Soap-bubble physics as a production process.

Mirrored visors and the law

A mirror coating reduces light transmission, and the legal limits differ by country. In Germany a visor must carry an ECE approval mark and, for night use, meet the transmission requirement — a strongly mirrored screen generally does not.

About the Special Pure T2 finish

The shell is a flat, slightly warm dark grey, matt and unbroken, with the vent trims and the mechanism covers in the same tone.

A single-colour matt helmet is the hardest finish to execute, because there is no graphic to hide behind. On a convertible there is a second difficulty: the shell has more panel joins than a fixed full-face — the chin guard mounts, the visor mounts, the peak line — and a plain finish leaves every one of them visible. Look closely before buying; on a helmet like this the finish is the specification.

What comes fitted as standard

MT supplies two things with this helmet that are usually accessories: a SportCam mount for an onboard camera, and vent covers that block the intakes against air or water in the rain.

The vent covers are the more useful of the two and the one nobody mentions. A convertible has more openings than a full-face by design, and being able to close them in November turns a summer helmet into a year-round one.

The sun visor

A built-in sun visor drops from inside the shell, and it works in every configuration — including with the chin guard removed, which is where a jet normally leaves you with nothing.

That is the single strongest argument for this helmet over a conventional jet. An open-face has no brow and no peak; low evening sun goes straight into your eyes. Here it does not.

ECE 22.06 and DOT

The Streetfighter SV S clears the current European standard, mandatory since January 2024, and carries DOT. The 22.06 tests 18 impact points against the 22.05's five, at several speeds, adds an oblique impact against an abrasive anvil for rotational loading, and applies a Brain Injury Criterion limit.

As with MT's other modulars, no P/J marking is published for this model. The label inside the chin strap is the authority — read it if the distinction matters to you.

Ventilation

Intakes at the front and the top, exhausts at the rear, and the supplied covers to block them.

A convertible ventilates better than a fixed full-face for an obvious reason: the same geometry that lets the chin guard come off leaves more air paths when it is on. It is the one area where this construction is ahead rather than behind.

Retention and interior

The strap closes on MT-MDTC, a micrometric ratchet with a double set of teeth. The lining was redesigned for this version, with new fabrics, and it is fully removable and washable. The shell accommodates Bluetooth intercom speakers.

Caring for the coating

The mirror layer is on the outside of the visor and it is thin — this is the one part of the helmet you can genuinely damage by cleaning it wrongly.

Never wipe it dry; grit will scratch straight through. Never use anything alcohol- or solvent-based. Soak insects off under a damp cloth for a minute, rinse with clean water and let it drip dry. Treated that way a coating lasts as long as the visor; wiped dry twice, it looks tired.

What it does not have

• No chin protection with the guard removed. Stated above, and the most important line on this page.
• No safety rating. SHARP has not tested the Streetfighter SV S; no ADAC or Snell result exists.
• No P/J marking published.
• Visor colours are sold separately, and no Pinlock preparation is published for this screen.
