DescriptionThe whole story▼
A shorter muffler that exits at the side. On an MT-09 — a naked bike whose whole design is about what you can see — that is the change most owners are buying, and it comes with EC and ECE type approval rather than a track-only caveat.
Key Features
- Complete system: headers, link pipes and muffler replace the standard exhaust path
- Shorter muffler design, exiting on the side of the bike for visual impact
- High-grade titanium muffler outer sleeve with a hand-crafted carbon fibre end cap
- Stainless steel link pipes and headers, where heat cycling is worst
- 2.0 PS more at 10,000 rpm, peak output rising to 118.1 PS
- 1.3 Nm more at 9,700 rpm
- EC and ECE type approved, removable noise insert supplied
Titanium or Stainless — Two Racing Lines
Akrapovic builds two complete systems for the current MT-09 and they are different products rather than two finishes. This one is titanium with a shorter, side-exit muffler and covers 2024 to 2026.
The stainless version, S-Y9R22-HKKSS, is a one-piece construction with the catalytic converter welded inside and a double outlet, and covers 2025 to 2026. Both carry EC and ECE approval. The choice comes down to the shape you want on the bike and, for a 2024 machine, to which one fits at all.
No Weight Figure Published
For most systems in this catalogue Akrapovic publishes a weight, and it appears here. For this one the manufacturer does not, and this page does not estimate one. A titanium Racing Line will be lighter than the standard steel system — but by how much is not documented, and inventing a number would be worse than leaving it out.
Where Two Horsepower Sit
10,000 rpm on the 890 cc CP3 triple is near the top of the range, and that is where this system finds its 2 PS. The MT-09 is one of the few naked bikes people actually rev, so the placement is defensible — but it is a modest figure and it is printed as measured.
The larger argument is the shape, the sound and the fact that a full system on this bike no longer costs the type approval.
Sixty Minutes on the Bench
A complete system means the standard headers, the collector and the catalytic converter all come off. On an MT-09 the tank does not have to move, but the radiator side panels do, which is why Akrapovic quotes an hour rather than the half-hour a slip-on takes.
Fitment and Compatibility
S-Y9R15-HAPT/2 covers the Yamaha MT-09 from model year 2024 through 2026. The FZ-09 is the same motorcycle under its North American name. Installation is quoted at 60 minutes.
Road Approval
EC type approval and ECE type approval, with the certificates supplied and downloadable here. The system is a legal replacement for road use in the European Union.
