DescriptionThe whole story▼
A noise damper on a sport tourer is a different proposition from one on a superbike. The S 1000 XR is bought to cover distance, often two-up and often through places where being quiet is simply good manners — and that, rather than a scrutineer's meter, is usually why an XR owner fits one.
Key Features
- Made for the Slip-On Line (Carbon) on the S 1000 XR
- Covers the S 1000 XR and the M 1000 XR from 2020
- Removable — in for the campsite, out for the pass
- Akrapovic publishes no decibel figure for it
- The system it belongs to is stocked here as a revised part number
Not Only for Circuits
Most dampers in this catalogue exist to satisfy a static noise limit at a race meeting. This one fits a motorcycle that will spend far more time on Alpine passes and campsites than on a circuit.
Being able to quieten the exhaust for an early departure, a village at night or a valley with a noise ordinance is worth more to that rider than two tenths of a decibel at scrutineering. It comes out again afterwards in a few minutes.
The System It Belongs To
Akrapovic names the Slip-On Line (Carbon) S-B10SO13-HZC. This shop stocks that silencer under its revised number — the same design with a suffix — so the pairing is straightforward.
If the exhaust on your XR is a different Akrapovic system, confirm the damper before ordering. A restrictor is dimensioned around a specific outlet.
Two Model Names
The S 1000 XR and the higher-specification M 1000 XR share the chassis and the exhaust position, so one damper serves both from 2020 onwards.
No Published Figure
Akrapovic gives no decibel value for this part. Nothing is estimated here — a damper's effect depends on the silencer, the engine and where the meter is held, and a manufacturer that has not measured it should not have a number attributed to it.
Alpine Noise Rules Are Real
Several Austrian and Tyrolean valleys enforce limits on motorcycle noise, with routes closed to machines above a stated figure. Those limits are enforced by measurement, not by inspection of the exhaust.
Nobody should treat a removable damper as a way around a rule. It is a way to comply with one.
A Long Fitment Window
Seven model years under one number, which is broad for a part machined to a specific outlet. BMW kept the XR's silencer position and its mounting unchanged from 2020 through the M 1000 XR's introduction, and Akrapovic's exhaust followed.
For an owner that means a part bought for a 2021 machine is correct for a 2025 one.
Optional, and Reversible
The slip-on is complete without it, and fitting one changes nothing permanently. It goes in and comes out with hand tools, which is exactly what makes it useful on a touring machine.
Road Approval
Not applicable in the usual sense. A damper does not confer or remove road legality; that rests with the silencer and its own type approval.
