DescriptionThe whole story▼
The Kawasaki GTR 1400 is a heavy, fast sports tourer with shaft drive and hard luggage, and for more than a decade it carried its owners across countries and continents. A track part may seem an odd match for it. Yet circuit training days for touring riders are offered at many tracks, and a GTR 1400 can take part if it is prepared with some care. Accossato lists the FC143 for the GTR 1400 of 2008 to 2020: a quick-release fuel tank cap machined from aluminium, with a pawl whose pin you order in one of six colours.
Key Features
- Quick-release fuel tank cap for the Kawasaki GTR 1400, 2008 to 2020
- Listed for the early bikes and the ABS models of 2015 to 2020
- Aluminium body, entirely CNC-machined
- Quick-closing pawl for short stops
- Pin in blue, silver, black, gold, red or green
- Spare pawl available separately
- No German ABE on record; for circuits and closed training grounds
Construction and Material Quality
Built wholly from CNC-machined aluminium, the FC143 is robust and durable in Accossato's words, and its design is new. On a big tourer, where the rider often refuels with gloves in one hand and luggage to think about, the quick-closing pawl keeps the job short: open, pour, close. The pin on the pawl comes in six colours. If the pawl is ever damaged, Accossato offers it on its own, and the cap itself stays in use.
Preparing a Tourer for Its Day on Circuit
A GTR 1400 arrives at a circuit training day built for a different job, and a short preparation list makes the day safer and more enjoyable. Take the panniers off and leave them in the van or at the circuit office, together with everything packed in them. Empty any small compartments, so nothing can fall out on track. Set the tyre pressures to the figures that the organiser or the tyre maker recommends for circuit use, and look at the brake pads, because a heavy bike asks a lot of them lap after lap. If the organiser requires it, tape over the glass of the lights. Then, with the engine cold, swap the standard cap for the FC143, clean the filler area first and check for leaks after the first top-up. Fuel adds weight high up on a big tank, so there is no need to fill the GTR 1400 to the brim for a morning of exercises. At the end of the day, work through the list in reverse once the engine has cooled, with the original cap going back on before the ride home.
Fitment and Compatibility
Accossato has two entries for the GTR 1400, 2008 to 2014 and the ABS model of 2015 to 2020, and both lead to the FC143, so we list it for 2008 to 2020. The same cap is catalogued for the Versys 1000 and the Ninja 1000 SX. Check your GTR 1400 against the list before ordering.
Road Approval
No German ABE and no parts certificate are documented for the FC143, so we supply it for closed circuits and training grounds. For touring, the GTR 1400 relies on its original cap, which normally locks with the ignition key.
