DescriptionThe whole story▼
Before a long tour, most Z1000SX owners check tyres, chain and oil. The controls deserve the same attention, because a clutch lever that is loose at the pivot, bent from a tip-over or still set for last winter's gloves will be pulled thousands of times before the trip is over. The Accossato ESK828 is a clutch lever for the Z1000SX, listed for bikes from 2011 to 2019. It is CNC-machined from aluminium and anodised, fits the original clutch mounting and combines an adjustable span with a choice of blade lengths for different gloves.
Key Features
- Kawasaki Z1000SX clutch lever, 2011 to 2019
- Replaces the stock part at the original clutch mounting
- Distance to the grip adjustable
- Three blade lengths; the standard one measures about 138 mm
- Seven anodised colours for the blade, hub always black
- CNC-machined from aluminium
- Single-piece blade without a hinge
- No documented German ABE; for track use
Construction and Material Quality
Autumn mornings and wet passes are part of any long tour, and a lever finish has to cope with both. The ESK828 is anodised after CNC machining, a process that grows a thin, hard oxide film out of the aluminium itself and binds the colour into it, so there is no paint layer for moisture to creep under. The hub, carrying the pivot and span adjuster, is black whichever blade colour you order. Hub and blade form one rigid part, without a folding joint.
The Pre-Trip Check
A few minutes in the garage the week before departure are enough. Sit on the Z1000SX in the gloves you will tour in and pull the clutch several times: the lever should move smoothly, without play at the pivot, and spring back cleanly. Look along the blade for bends or cracks, especially if the bike has ever been dropped. Then check the span. The take-up should come with the fingers comfortably curled, and at full pull there should still be room between the fingertips and the grip. Finally, turn the bars from lock to lock with the lever pulled in, to make sure no charging lead, mount or tank bag gets in the way. If the old lever fails any of these tests, the ESK828 is the moment to start fresh, set to your hand and your touring gloves. Riders who cover long days often choose the long blade, made in four colours, for its lighter pull.
Fitment and Compatibility
Two Accossato entries for the Z1000SX carry the ESK828: one for 2011 to 2016 and one for 2014 to 2019, together covering every year from 2011 to 2019. It is fitted at the original clutch mounting. For 2017 to 2019 the list additionally names the ESK750 clutch lever, so owners of a late SX should compare their original lever with the photos of both. The brake side is covered by the EDF088 for all Z1000SX years from 2011.
Road Approval
Without a documented German ABE, this clutch lever is supplied for racing and track days.
