DescriptionThe whole story▼
Hand guards are a common sight on the BMW R 1250 GS Adventure, the version of the ShiftCam GS with the large fuel tank and long-distance equipment. They shield the levers from branches, stones and cold wind, but a guard and a lever share a small space at the end of the bar, so the choice of blade length deserves a moment's thought. Accossato's EDB077 for the R 1250 GS Adventure of 2019 is a machined aluminium brake lever with adjustable reach, made in three lengths.
Key Features
- Brake lever for the BMW R 1250 GS Adventure, 2019
- Fits the original front master cylinder
- Reach adjuster near the pivot
- Blade lengths short, standard (about 138 mm) and long
- Anodised aluminium from solid stock, machined on CNC equipment
- Black hub, blade colour chosen from seven
- No folding joint: one rigid piece
- No German ABE documented, for track use
Construction and Material Quality
Accossato machines the EDB077 from a solid aluminium blank and anodises it once the shape is finished. The hub, black on every lever, carries the pivot hole and the adjuster; the blade is anodised in black, blue, red, orange, gold, silver or green and runs as one rigid piece to its tip. Machining produces clean, regular surfaces, and anodising adds a hard layer that is part of the aluminium, not a coating on it. On an adventure bike that regularly meets dust, mud and the hose afterwards, that difference shows over time.
Hand Guards and Blade Length
Hand guards sit in front of the lever tips, and the gap between guard and blade is what lets the lever travel freely. When you fit a new blade, check that gap in three situations: with the lever at rest, with it pulled fully towards the grip, and with the handlebar turned to full lock in both directions. A long blade reaches further towards the guard than a standard one, so on an R 1250 GS Adventure with guards, the standard or short length is often the simpler choice. If you prefer the long blade for its extra leverage, confirm the clearance before the first ride.
The reach setting changes the picture too, because moving the blade away from the grip also brings its tip nearer the guard. Set the reach first, then check the clearance, and repeat the check whenever you change gloves and adjust the setting again. Off-road riders on the R 1250 GS Adventure often favour the short blade anyway, as it lets two fingers brake while the other two keep hold of the grip.
Fitment and Compatibility
On Accossato's list, the EDB077 is given for the R 1250 GS Adventure of 2019; later years are not included. The ESC075 clutch lever is listed for the same bikes and years. The standard R 1250 GS has its own product with the same lever.
Road Approval
No German ABE has been documented for the EDB077, and it is offered for circuit riding.
