DescriptionThe whole story

There is a point in every lap on an R1M where the pad decides how fast the corner is. The pad is the S001, cut at 69.5 by 50.5 mm to sit square in the Sumitomo caliper of the R1M. On the Yamaha R1M the S001 is now available in EXR, the compound that carries ZCOO's endurance programme.

Key Features

  • Suitable for trackday use on the R1M without a change of pad before the session
  • Predictable in the wet, because the compound does not need temperature to start working on a R1M
  • Selected by ZCOO for the Yamaha R1M out of the sixteen shapes in the 2026 programme
  • Pad code ZRM-S001C, 69.5 mm long and 50.5 mm tall - a direct fit in the standard caliper
  • Compatible with the standard Sumitomo retaining pin and spring of the R1M - nothing else to buy
  • Ceramic sintering rather than a resin binder, so there is nothing in the S001 to cook out at the top of the range

Construction and Material Quality

The S001 is built on the same platform as ZCOO's endurance-racing references. Expansion gaps between the friction blocks let the S001 material grow into the gaps when hot instead of building stress against itself. Together they remove the two things that normally end a sintered pad, and the S001 is built against both: fade at the top of the range, and the friction layer lifting away.

Performance and Feel

Durability is the quiet part of the EXR argument. On the Yamaha R1M that means a lever which still has something to say at the end of the zone. On the R1M it means the fifteenth lap can be braked like the second.

Fitment and Compatibility

ZCOO's 2026 catalogue lists this reference for the Yamaha R1M across 11 model years (2015 to 2025). Front axle only; the S001 has no rear counterpart in the ZCOO programme. The same S001 shape covers 27 further machines in the 2026 catalogue. Before ordering, check that your caliper takes a pad of 69.5 mm length and 50.5 mm height.

Road Approval

No ECE R90 type approval is documented for this pad. It appears neither in ZCOO's own catalogue nor on the European distributor's site, and no approval number is printed on the packaging data available to us. ZCOO itself describes the compound as suited to competition machines and road machines alike, but that is a description of the mixture, not a type approval. Until the distributor confirms an approval in writing, treat this as a track and competition part: in Germany a replacement brake pad without ECE R90 approval may not be fitted to a motorcycle used on public roads. Ask us before ordering if you need this clarified for your machine.
