It is a motorcycle for rolling through places where people can see it — town centres, coast roads, the slow lane on a warm evening — and that means a great many engine hours at low road speed. From the intake's point of view that is an unusual duty cycle, and it changes which element makes sense.

Key Features

Dry non-woven medium — never oiled, so there is nothing to wash out and nothing to re-apply

Filtration down to 14 microns, against 80 microns for the standard P08

Air flow 1,800 l/m²/sec — the price finer retention costs, and the reason this is a choice rather than an upgrade

Direct replacement in the standard airbox — no modification, no remap

Washable and reusable; compressed air from the clean side restores it

Two-year warranty from the date of purchase

Engine hours, not kilometres

An air filter loads in proportion to the volume of air drawn through it, and that tracks how long the engine runs rather than how far the motorcycle goes. A machine that spends its time at 40 km/h in traffic accumulates far more running time per kilometre than one covering distance, and the air it draws in that setting is the dirtiest it will meet: brake dust, tyre particulate and road grit, almost all of it in the fine size range. The P14 retains down to 14 microns against 80 for the standard P08, which is precisely the fraction that urban air is made of.

Low speed also means less cooling airflow

The second consequence of riding slowly is heat: a 1262 cc twin makes plenty of it, and at walking pace there is little airflow to carry it away. That is the condition in which oiled cotton elements are at their least appealing, because warm oil is thin oil and thin oil migrates — onto the hot-film air mass sensor, where a coating reads as less air than is genuinely passing. The P14 is dry non-woven with no oil in it, so nothing can migrate. Flow is 1,800 litres per square metre per second against 5,050 for the P08; at the speeds this motorcycle actually sees, that reserve is not what limits it.

Care and cleaning

Blow it through from the clean side with compressed air, working outwards — a non-woven medium releases dust readily and needs nothing else in normal use. For a deeper clean, wash in lukewarm water with a mild detergent, rinse until the water runs clear, and let it dry fully in air; never with heat, never with a flame. Refit it dry. There is no oiling step and never has been.
