Full bodywork changes the economics of a service item. Getting to the airbox of a YZF R125 means removing panels, working around the fairing stay and finding the fasteners again afterwards, and that half hour is the real cost of the job — not the element itself. Which is precisely why a paper cartridge on a faired machine tends to be inspected less often than the schedule intends. The Sprint Filter P08 PM198S rewards that effort instead of consuming it: once the panels are off, the element comes out, gets blown through with an air line and goes straight back in, and the same piece is still there at the next service.
Key Features
- Roughly twice the filtering area of other performance filters
- The P08 medium is woven polyester used dry; never oiled, so the intake sensors stay clear
- 5,050 litres per square metre per second of flow, with particles held at 80 microns
- No cutting, no remap, no change to homologation: it takes the original's place in the standard airbox
- Compressed air is the service; the element is washable and reusable
- A warranty of two years starts at purchase
The part that stops arriving in boxes
A disposable element is a small recurring order that has to be timed correctly: it has to be in the garage before the panels come off, or the motorcycle stands there in pieces waiting for a delivery. A washable element removes that dependency altogether. The decision to service the intake stops being a purchasing decision and becomes a five-minute one.
Bodywork keeps the rider dry, not the airbox
A fairing does a great deal for wind protection and almost nothing for the air the engine breathes; the intake still draws from the same road-level air as any naked machine, and on a small sports single it draws it hard, because these engines do their work high in the rev range. The P08 meets that with woven polyester spun from threads of 22 microns and upwards, used dry and cleaned with compressed air. Sprint Filter measured a four-layer oiled cotton filter retaining 76.42 per cent of 100-micron test particles, against 93.13 per cent for the dry P08 — and the P08 carries no oil film into a throttle body fitted with sensors. Finer weaves exist for harsher work, the P14 at 14 microns among them, but each step finer costs flow: 5,050 litres per square metre per second against 1,800. That is a trade, not a ranking.
Care and cleaning
Panels off, element out, air line on: blow it through from the clean side outwards and most services are done. A wash in lukewarm water with a mild detergent follows if that was not enough, rinsed until the water runs clear. Drying cannot be rushed — open air, right through the element, no heat and no flame — and it is refitted dry. Nothing is oiled at the end. The Sprint Filter maintenance sheet is in the Downloads tab.
Fitment & Compatibility
Made for the Yamaha YZF R125, 2019 to 2026, and a direct replacement in the standard airbox. The same PM198S element serves seven machines built around this airbox, across the 125 and 155 versions of the engine; the full list is in the Fitment tab.
