That is the machine Ducati half-accidentally built: the Panigale a competent rider could use all of, and cheap enough these days to risk. Buying one used means inheriting somebody else's service history, and the air panel is the item nobody ever writes down. PM127S is a woven polyester element that hands you a known starting condition and then gives it back every time you clean it.

Key Features

Woven polyester run dry, with no tacky coat anywhere in it

Close to twice the medium area of a conventional performance panel

Yarn diameters begin at 22 micrometres, woven to a controlled aperture rather than pressed from pulp

Sits in the standard box where the paper panel sat, calibration untouched

Reset with an air line in the gap between two sessions

Warranted for two years from the day it is bought

Session time is the only clock

A circuit day is not measured in kilometres. It runs in twenty-minute blocks with an hour of standing about in between, and every job you do to the bike has to fit inside that hour. Washing a gauze, drying it properly and putting the right quantity of oil back does not fit; in practice the filter simply stays where it is and the work moves to a day that never arrives. Blowing a dry panel through takes about as long as checking tyre pressures, so it genuinely gets done, session after session, on a paddock surface dustier than any road the bike will ever see.

What a used bike inherits

Nothing here will make a standard 899 faster, and no lap time is going to fall because of a panel filter. What changes is that the inlet restriction stops being an unknown quantity. A paper element records its entire history and hands none of it over: it silted up gradually, it never announced anything, and it cannot be brought back. Wash this one and it returns to the condition it left the factory in, which means the third owner rides the same intake the first one did.

Care and cleaning

Compressed air, aimed from the clean face outwards, is the whole routine most of the time. When a season of paddock dust asks for more, wash it in hand-warm water with a drop of mild detergent, rinse until the water leaves clear, and let it dry in still air — heat guns and flames wreck the weave. It goes back in dry, with nothing to reapply. The maintenance sheet sits under the Downloads tab.

Fitment & Compatibility

Listed for the Ducati Panigale 899 built between 2013 and 2015. Twenty-one Ducati models share this single element, from the Superquadro superbikes through the Multistrada range, 1200 to V2, to the Diavel and the Scrambler 1100; the Fitment tab carries the whole list.
