Valves and needles set the adjustable part of the damping; the piston sets the rest.

Key Features

Original Öhlins service part

Öhlins part number 21047-01

Function

This position is identified by its number rather than by a dimension. If it sticks open, the damper loses low-speed damping entirely. The seat face has to be flat enough for the first shim to seal against it. Öhlins machines its pistons rather than sintering them, which is why the port edges stay sharp.

Why the Original

A damper that can be rebuilt is a damper that stays on the bike; that is the whole argument for original service parts. Rebuilding to specification only works if the parts are to specification — that starts here. Where a number has been superseded, Öhlins states the replacement — we pass that on. For a full rebuild, the seal kit plus the wear parts is usually the sensible order.

Getting the Number Right

Öhlins identifies this position by the number 21047-01 in the exploded view for the unit it belongs to. This position has no published dimension, so the part number is the only reliable identifier. A scored piston face means oil bypasses the shims entirely. Piston bands are consumables — they wear against the bore and lose their seal gradually.

Fitting and Setup Service

If you would rather not open the damper yourself, we can do it — we are an authorised Öhlins service centre and rebuild these units as a matter of routine.

Specifications

Brand: Öhlins

Part Number: 21047-01

Category: Check Valves

Country of Origin: Sweden

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0949/7831/0410/files/21047-01_01498084-4b6e-44d4-be57-2e3a0ad75d9f.png?v=1788879430
