The Usable Panigale
Ducati redrew the 959 with V4 styling, a wider seat and a reshaped tank. It is the superbike in the range a competent rider can use most of and it was the last Panigale twin.
A Single-Sided Swingarm
The V2 gained the arm the 959 never had. Ducati spent the money on what the rider looks at rather than on chasing another ten horsepower, which was the right decision.
Every Setting on the Left
Cornering ABS, traction, wheelie control and engine braking, all from a Bosch platform and all configured through this block. The V2 carries the V4's electronics entirely.
Three Anodised Options
Black, red and titanium, converted into the top layer of the aluminium. On a motorcycle whose fairing is doing everything visually, black is usually the right choice.
Sealed Contacts
Enclosed inside the machined body. Track use means hot washing after every session and a wet paddock overnight, both harder on terminals than road riding.
Under Braking
The left hand is doing one job at the end of a straight and has nothing spare for locating a button. Machined geometry lets a control be found by position rather than by looking.
Eight Hundred and Thirty-Seven Millimetres
The seat height, which is low for a Panigale and part of why the V2 suits riders the V4 defeats. Ducati widened the seat and reshaped the tank at the same time.
A Hundred and Fifty-Five Horsepower
Enough to be genuinely fast and few enough that a competent rider uses most of it. That is a rarer specification in a superbike than it ought to be.
Kept Rather Than Traded
V2 owners hold onto them, which has left clean used examples scarce. On a motorcycle that never topped a sales chart, that is the most meaningful verdict available.
