A Simple Interlock
Gear position and stand position are read together. If both say the wrong thing at once, the engine stops before the motorcycle moves.
The Worst Place on the Motorcycle
Inches from the road surface, behind the wheel, cleaned with a pressure lance after every ride. Nothing electrical lasts long there.
When the Stand Comes Off
Track preparation removes it for weight and ground clearance, and the switch is bolted to the bracket that leaves with it.
Nothing Cut
The loom is left exactly as BMW built it, which matters when the standard switch eventually goes back.
On a Loaded Bike
The heavier the motorcycle and the more it carries, the worse a low-speed fall is. That is worth weighing before removing anything.
Keep the Old Switch
Even a failed unit is worth putting in the parts box, because it makes the eventual refit straightforward and because a buyer will want to see one. It costs nothing to keep.
