DescriptionThe whole story▼

Nobody notices a clutch lever until the traffic stops moving. On the S1000R, an upright roadster that spends far more time in town than its faired relative, the left hand does the work that the right hand gets credit for. The FXCL-28 brings 35 reach positions to that hand, along with a folding blade and a bearing that stays tight, for a lever that can be set once and forgotten.

Key Features

  • Reach set across 35 steps, adjusted by hand
  • Hinged blade that folds away in a drop
  • Break point retained in the two-finger area
  • Treated pivot surface, no play out of the box
  • Machined aluminium with a black anodised finish
  • German road approval, ABE No. KBA 91203

Build

The blade is cut from solid, anodised black, and carries the milled Gilles face on its top surface. The pivot bore is phosphated as a separate operation. That step is easy to overlook on a spec sheet and hard to ignore once a cheaper lever has gone slack in its mount after a wet winter of commuting.

The Case for a Shorter Reach in Traffic

Clutch fatigue is a reach problem before it is a spring problem. A lever set too far out makes the hand open fully on every pull, and in stop-and-go riding that adds up to hundreds of full-span movements in an afternoon. Bringing the blade in by a few millimetres shortens the whole motion, and riders usually report the difference in the forearm rather than the fingers. Two-finger operation becomes practical, which in turn frees the other two to keep a grip on the bar.

Fitment and Installation

Made for the BMW S1000R, type codes K10 and 2R10, covering model years 2013 to 2020. Fitting is a straight swap onto the original perch, with one step that is easy to miss: the clutch switch actuation must be taken over from the factory lever. Do that before the first ride and confirm the starter interlock still behaves.

Road Approval

Holds ABE No. KBA 91203 for road use in Germany. The designed break point in the blade is a condition of the approval and must remain unmodified.

Scope of Delivery

Supplied as one black clutch lever. The switch actuator is not included and is transferred from the factory lever, so keep the original to hand while fitting. Print the ABE from the download on this page and carry it with the registration documents.
