DescriptionThe whole story▼
Read this part first: this silencer cannot be fitted on its own. Akrapovic requires either the link pipe L-D12SO2 or the Evolution header E-D12E1/1 to be ordered alongside it, and the Evolution header does not fit the Monster 1200 R. Order the muffler by itself and it will not go on the bike.
Key Features
- 1.9 kg against the standard 8.2 kg — a 76.8 per cent reduction, the largest in this entire Akrapovic range
- 3.9 PS (2.9 kW) more power at 9,450 rpm and 4.9 Nm more torque at 4,500 rpm
- Titanium muffler outer sleeve with carbon fibre parts
- 100.2 dB against the standard 95.9 dB — this is a track exhaust and the number says so
- Installation in about 20 minutes once the required link pipe or header is in hand
- Covers the Monster 1200, 1200 S, 1200 R and 821
- Optional carbon fibre heat shield P-HSD12E1 available
What You Have to Order With It
The standard Monster exhaust is a single assembly running from the header to the tail. This Akrapovic part replaces only the silencer, so the section between the engine and the muffler has to come from Akrapovic as well. Two ways to do that:
The link pipe L-D12SO2 works on all four machines. The Evolution header E-D12E1/1 gives more, but Akrapovic states explicitly that it does not fit the Monster 1200 R. On an R, the link pipe is the only route.
Six Point Three Kilograms
Almost every listing on this site quotes a weight saving somewhere between twenty and fifty per cent. This one is 76.8 per cent, and the reason is the standard part: 8.2 kg of double-skinned steel silencer and collector on a naked bike that weighs 187 kg dry. Replacing it with 1.9 kg of titanium removes more than three per cent of the entire motorcycle.
The 4.9 Nm at 4,500 rpm is the second number worth reading. On a big air-cooled Ducati twin ridden in town, that is where the engine actually works.
Twenty Minutes, the Shortest Job in the Range
Akrapovic quotes 20 minutes for this installation, which is among the shortest figures on any exhaust part in this catalogue. The Monster's silencer sits low and open on the right-hand side with nothing over it: no fairing, no pannier rail, no tail unit in the way. Two clamps and a hanger bolt.
That short figure applies to the silencer itself. It does not include fitting the link pipe or the Evolution header that this part requires, and those are separate jobs with their own times. No removable noise insert is supplied with this unit.
Fitment and Compatibility
S-D12SO8-RTBL covers the Ducati Monster 1200, 1200 S, 1200 R and 821 from model year 2017 through 2020. The required link pipe or Evolution header is a separate order — see above.
Road Approval
None. This product does not meet emission compliance requirements for street or highway use, and at 100.2 dB it is well outside the road noise window. Fitting it to a road-registered motorcycle is the owner's legal responsibility.
